Yes, before he hit with his first album, Bayonne, NJ's own Robert Tepper started out as a songwriter in NYC in the mid-to-late 70s, and came up at the same time as Benny Mardones, and they teamed up on album #2, 1980's "Never Run, Never Hide", with Robert co-writing & playing bass on many of the songs, including his twice one-hit "Into The Night". Robert probably received royalties from that one song to sustain his life and survive for years. Afterwards, Robert also was a partner on Benny's 1981 followup "Too Much To Lose", then departed for LA. My friend Alan Merrill co-wrote "I Love Rock & Roll" in 1976 while in his band the Arrows, and with Joan Jett's cover and Britney Spears' version, and it's use in many music competition and game shows, it put his kids through college and made him very rich. The point is, Robert having co-written "Into The Night" in 1979/1980 kept him going during the lean years while building his career as a songwriter and artist, later breaking out as his own artist in 1985/1986 with this album's title track. Then the full album comes out after the song became a sizable hit single, just missing the Top 20.

I LOVED the song, and needed to hear more, so I bought the original vinyl in 1986 and still have it. It's a killer combination of great songwriting, go-for-broke vocals, and a rich drum-heavy production that seriously packs a wallop. Reading the credits, I now know why. Besides his songwriting talent, his vocal style was clearly influenced by his friend Benny Mardones, the emotional-to-the-point-of-crying soulful, short of begging, which would have made him seem pathetic, but you root for the guy.

Great album. For music from the 80's, it would be classified as a classic need to have in your inventory.
Definitely worth a listen. In my opinion, it is music and not a bunch of noise you hear now a days.
