I host about 3 to 4 murder mystery parties a year. I collect all these boxed games, because I use them for the various themes, characters and sometimes clues they provide as I rework them into my own party. The Murder a la Carte line of mystery games are pretty good. They are very scripted. There are three rounds of play and before each round, the guests act out a scene using scripted dialogue, like a play. Then in each round each guest has 2 facts to reveal (some with secret clues) and 2 answers to give to various questions they will be asked. At some point in the game, (usually round three) the killer or killers are told they did it and given various answer to lie with). So all in all, you don't need to act and you don't have to make anything up. Some people like a scripted game, others hate it. My group would rather have it scripted and then ad lib as they get more comfortable with the characters, so think about it whether this type of scripted game is right for your group. It's easy to use, especially for first timers and the setting is fun and unique (at a Vegas wedding chapel). My biggest complaint with most of this line of games (as well as many other boxed games) is that the mystery is usually poorly crafted. Everyone has a motive and then one person is randomly (at least it seems) chosen to be the killer and the clues usually don't ad up. I scored this version "Eat, Drink and Be Married," higher than others because the mystery is pretty good and makes logical sense and there are enough clues that some of your sharper guests might be able to guess correctly. Also, the characters and setting are very fun. The only downside to most of this line of games is that the two extra characters really don't add to the game. In fact, they make it worse.Read more ›

I haven't played this yet, and it looks like fun. My review is not 5 star because it looks like this is a used item. The box itself was not wrapped in plastic wrap like most of the games I order. And the inside invitations, etc. were wrapped in a rubber band, which is odd. On the plus side, the vendor was super easy to deal with and said I could return this if I wanted. I am keeping it because it looks like fun, and best yet, it is for 6-8 players. Sometimes people cancel at the last minute, so the 6 people thing works for me in those cases. It comes with a casette instead of a CD, but that is not a downside for me, because I have a casette player so no worries. Good vendor, ok product.

If you need an excuse to have friends over, this is for you. This party-in-a-box removes all the hassle of planning your next get-together. The directions are easy to follow and you are given options on a menu to fit most any culinary level. The roles of the guests are evenly split between male/female, so unless you have friends unconcerned about gender-bending, you are constrained to picking couples to participate.

I was excited about receiving this game due to fun game nights that I have with friends. Sad to say, we can not play the received game because it comes with a cassette and not a CD or DVD. Most games these days do. So, I'll have to figure out if one of my friends have an old cassette player stashed in their storages somewhere. If not, I'll probably donate it to the local mission and tape on the box "requires cassette player". Now, I'm afraid to purchase any products from this company and it seems like a fun type of game. I had to give it a 1 but only for not disclosing that it wasn't CD or DVD compatible.
