As for keeping it under 600 Watts (per Ebtech's recommendations) I did some math on one of my higher performance editing systems and discovered it's true draw is surprisingly well within range. While the power supply is rated at 1500 Watts, and the two graphics cards (including a 6 head card) recommend a min 300 Watt available each, they also list the total ACTUAL draw under 100 Watts each max. Same for the CPU at 95 Watts max. It seems the higher spec PSU's contribute to system stability under load and can obviously handle spikes more gracefully, but all in all, even with decent specs, a big edit system is still well within operating range to use the hum eliminator.
I am extremely happy to have rid myself of a career-long fight with the enemy of noisy studio monitors. I am forever in Ebtech's debt.
It also seems to handle the amp load of both a Macbook Pro and a high-end PC with 8-core CPU, 3 hard drives, Geforce GTX 680 and 900watt power supply without any problems. I run it into a surge protector so I can hook up several devices to it.
And, using it doesn't affect audio quality whatsoever.
This thing is brilliant!
I will never be without one again!
but even inside of the power center, it was causing the high pitched hum through my surround speakers (most noticeable, when I wasn't playing any audio at all through my pc)
after adding this adapter to my pc power cable, and reconnecting to my power center, the hum is gone.
if for some reason the device fails in the next 6 months or so, I will update my review, but for now, it's working perfectly.
Solving noisy electrical lines (i.e.ground loops) is not an easy fix in most cases. The Hum X "Filter" helps prove this fact.
