Editorial Reviews

Fans have had to wait four years to see Counting Crows on stage again, but they'll hardly could complaining in 2013: to cap off with the much awaited tour, the San Francisco rockers are about to release their newest collection of live songs Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow which will compliment other official live recordings the band has released. Counting Crows followers are in for a real treat with this collection of audio footage which was recorded on several dates of their North American tour in 2012. The band's performances have been renowned since the early 90s for their energy and uniqueness: no two shows are the same; with Adam Duritz constantly rewriting songs and mixing them up live for an evening always full of surprises. Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow was recorded and mixed by Shawn Dealey, who worked with the band on their latest studio release Underwater Sunshine.

This is a deluxe package and will include 12 postcards of posters from their 2013 tour dates.

Counting Crows are my favorite band and I particularly love them live. This CD didn't really bring anything new to the table though, even in terms of music arrangement or vocal delivery. (note: there are differences from regular performances but nothing strikingly so).

That being said, everything is still 'good' on the album and there's two types of people I think should definitely buy it.

1. People who like Counting Crows and aren't real familiar with their live stuff, cover songs, and re-worked songs.
2. Diehard Counting Crows fans.

So listen to the previews and see if you like what you hear. I predict that this won't be getting as much play from me as Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings OR Underwater Sunshine.

...this collection of recordings is awful. The songs are fantastic, but any and all technical merit is completely missing. Adam's vocals are clipping left and right throughout the entirety of the album. The casual fan might find enough to love (and might forgive the sins of the recording & mixing), but even as much as I love the tracklisting, I just can't bring myself to listen to this any further after two attempts. Such a shame.

This is one of my new favorite CD's. I purchased it before the summer tour hit here in the States. I was so thrilled to hear the songs live after hearing them on this CD. "Round Here" is simply amazing, this song alone is worth the price. Enjoy this while we anxiously await the next album.

I can't stop listening to this CD. Counting Crows do a great live show and this capture of one of them is GOLDEN. I think of Adam Duritz as a "free range" singer; he makes each song sound new every time.

great live album that meshes covers and original music from across the CC spectrum. You hear traces (echoes) of their art from before August and Everything After up to today. This album has all the energy of the Across a Wire (Live in New York) album but incorporates a much broader range of work.

Echoes is a terrific add to a well-rounded cd collection.

I agree with reviewers who say that the sound on this recording could be better, and a band of this caliber definitely deserves to be represented in the best light possible. However there is also some charm to this bootleg-quality recording, especially since it captures such a lively and engaging concert. The Counting Crows lean heavily on deep album cuts and cover songs from the band's most recent release (titled Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation)) rather than the greatest hits, attacking them with conviction and a loose, rollicking approach. As a long-time fan of this band, I certainly appreciate the live versions of some of these lesser-known treasures. "Mercury," "Sundays," "Up All Night," and "Rain King" are four of my favorite songs from the Counting Crows and do not all appear on previous live discs. The covers are more exciting than their studio counterparts as well. Overall a fun listen if you can ignore the sound quality. For some, that will be easier than for others.

If you enjoy when the lead singer performs his lyrics like some kind of spoken word night at The Poetry Corner, this album is not for you.
He barely does that at all, which is great! Call me old fashion, but I like it when singers sing. I give the song selection 4 stars and the audio integrity 5 stars. Also, there are a bunch of post cards with prints of the promo posters for this tour which come free inside the record.

I'm not a huge fan of live albums. They just sound weird, and I cannot sing along to then because the songs can be so different. However the Counting Crows are different. This album is amazing, it has some of my favorite crows songs, and some new favorites. Nobody sings live like Adam, he really just come alive in all the songs. Now I just need to get myself to a Counting Crows concert someday because they are fantastic!
