Desiccant Dehumidifier comparison chart
How much does it cost?
It costs 330 watts/hour to run on Economy mode but only 30 watts/hour when in sampling mode.
Compressor dehumidifiers are quoted at a standard 80% RH 86°F, this means a 31-pint compressor type will extract a maximum of 31-pint only when the temperature hits 86°F. Any lower than this, see the orange line on the graphs to see how the DD122 Simple outperforms it.
- Do you know that DD122 Simple will extract 15-pint per day regardless as long as the temperature is within 34°F - 95°F
Desiccant V Compressor Performance Graph
Compare the DD122 Simple to a 31-Pint compressor dehumidifier:
These 2 graphs plot the performances of the DD122 Simple against a typical 31-pint compressor dehumidifier under two humidity conditions of 60% RH & 80% RH.
This is because compressor dehumidifiers extraction rate are measured at 80% RH 86°F (a standard measure) but we measure our desiccant dehumidifiers at 60% RH 68°F.
Lets compare both under each of the two different humidity conditions :
- At 60% RH 80°F, the DD122 Simple matches the performance of a 31-pint compressor dehumidifier
- At 60% RH at temperatures below 80°F, the DD122 Simple exceeds the performance of a 31-pint compressor dehumidifier
- At 60% RH 86°F, a 31-pint compressor dehumidifier only extracts 17-pint
Control panel & filter of DD122 EA simple
Portability is an important consideration when purchasing a dehumidifier. You may want to move the dehumidifier from room to room.
Whilst the the DD122 EA lightweight at 13.2 lbs, it is equipped with a collapsible carry handle to make portability more manageable.
The DD122 EA Simple has a 4.2 pints (2 litre) tank capacity, positioned at the side of the dehumidifier like a drawer.
There is no need to move the dehumidifier when removing the tank to empty. There is a lid covering the tank to avoid spillage and a carry handle for ease of carrying.
Continuous hose (optional)
You can use the hose provided (one meter length of 7/16 inch diameter) to drain the water directly to a drain or sink to save emptying the tank regularly.
You need to remove the knockout at the back of the dehumidifier and pass the hose through and attach to the connector.
Anti tilt protection
Safety is regarded as a top priority when selecting your dehumidifier.
The DD122 EA Simple is equipped with a Tilt over safety protection where it powers off automatically when the unit tilts over to safeguard you and avoid hazard.
Rotary dial control panel
With a rotary dial control panel, you can set the humidity level between 35% - 80% RH. A guidance for your humidity setting for low, medium, high & laundry (continuous) drying is marked.
Set medium (2 water droplets icon) to set at approximately 50% RH. Set Laundry for drying clothes and so on. But remember to set back to medium after using the laundry mode.
Economy turbo switch
Economy - maximum energy saving and quiet operation. Use for normal daily routine and night time.
Turbo - for rapid dehumidification of high humidity or severe damp problems. Once damp problem is controlled, switch back to Economy for energy saving.
Auto restart function
DD122 EA Simple is able to automatically restart for example, after a power failure.
Once the power is restored, the dehumidifier will continue to operate at the selected settings.
Very useful if used to dry your boat, RV or unoccupied properties in the days before using them.
Filter is easy to remove, sliding in and out easily for quick regular cleaning.
The filter traps dust and needs to be cleaned regularly (every 2 weeks) to keep the dehumidifier dust free. Clean by gently brushing or use a vacuum cleaner.
Drying laundry indoors
Turn the dial to Laundry button on the control panel. It generally takes 2-4 hours to dry your laundry indoors.
You can use the Laundry mode together with the economy setting or to speed up the drying, use it with the Turbo setting. But remember to reset to medium mode and economy setting afterwards.

On the first day the humidity was 90%, I had it on high for 3 hours between the entrance of our house and the door to our kitchen and it pulled a full tank of water and reduced the humidity to 75% – amazing! I let it run for another 3 days on high and I can see that the humidity is now at 62%, I cannot imagine all the water had been floating in the air. The great thing is this dehumidifier has an “Economy” mode for maximum energy saving and quiet operation – which is what I have it on now. I find that it is now moderating itself to come on when humidity rises, for example when I start cooking, with the steam from my cooking this machine starts running to take the humidity out, I used to get condensation on my windows when I start cooking, I don’t anymore.
There is some chatter about the cost of running dehumidifier, this is what needs to be considered, when the air is humid (high humidity like 60% or more) bacteria can grow, many people know this but what is more interesting is that high humidity also makes the air in the room more difficult to cool and heat up. Yes this machine emits slightly warm air – an obvious bonus for the winter but less obvious is the bonus in the summer, even though this air is warm, it is “good warm air” known technically as “sensible heat” which is easier to cool – this means that your air conditioner does not need to work so hard to cool down the warm air because the humidity is lower! Very much like me boiling my potatoes in a big pot of water takes longer than if I use just enough water and me trying to put my jello to cool, small pots of jello cool quicker than big pots? If you have high humidity in the room, its “latent heat” so it takes the air conditioner more effort to cool it down.
This dehumidifier also has a laundry mode and a turbo mode, it speeds up the dehumidier process so that it takes shorter time to do the job. I tried the laundry mode, and put my laundry to hand about 3 feet away and it dries the laundry so quickly in 3 hours! Use this mode only when you need to though.
For the price I paid, I am very satisfied, it has a lid over the water tank and it has a handle on the cover, a very good point for me as I am rather clumsy and do now want water to spill when I need to empty it. There is a continuous drain hose supplied which I won’t need to use for now as I use the water from the dehumidifier to water my plants. The tank out from the side of the dehumidifier, this is useful as I do not need to move the dehumidifier when I need to empty the tank. My old dehumidifier has a tank that slids out from the back, very clumsy as I needed to move the dehumidifier round to get to the tank!
When selecting a dehumidifier I was concerned about electricity cost, efficiency, and noise, and so far this dehumidifier has blown me away with its ability to dry my 800 square foot house out when placed in front of the air return on the central HVAC. My house is new construction with thermal windows and is well sealed from weather drafts. I leave my central HVAC on recirculate so that my air is cleaned through my MERV 13 allergen filter constantly, and because of the high humidity outside I have mostly closed off my fresh air duct to control outdoor humidity coming into the house. When I unboxed this and started it up the humidity monitor said it was 70% humidity indoors, and after running it on turbo mode for three days it got my indoor humidity in the house down to 40%, and that's with rain showers outside consistent 95% humidity outdoors.
As far as noise you can sleep with it in a bedroom on eco mode, and on turbo the fan makes only slightly more noise than my central HVAC blower, which isn't too bad in my case since I have it located next to the HVAC. As far as the tub, it could be a bit larger, because for those first three days it filled up in 4-5 hours, and now it is 7-8 before it needs to be emptied.
It has also saved one of our cell phones after it went through the wash. Dried it out in a day.
I have never been more satisfied or impressed by a small appliance than I have with this dehumidifier. I would definitely buy it again and recommend it.
I tried larger units and these worked. But they operate differently than the desiccant dehumidifier.
This unit removed 1.5 liters of water from the air in just over 2 hours. I've emptied it three times in a day. It operates somewhat quietly, sounding much like a fan. Literally out of the box, remove some strips of tape, plug in and turn on. You set the amount of humidity you wish and away it goes. I will follow directions to hook a drain hose to the tank, and let this machine keep running as needed.
It does shut off when humidity reaches your set point. I have an electronic temperature / humidity monitor that confirms the dial on the EcoSeb is quite accurate.
Of note, the fan blows warm air. You can direct this flow with an adjustable vent. In the winter this is a nice touch. If you live in the deep hot South this is something you should know.
