The book encourages entrepreneurs not to overspend, to recognize that marketing is essential, and to put in the personal effort to understand their customers and competitors. Understanding customers (creation of an “avatar”) is described in detail.
If you don’t want to read 356 pages, read the 12 Core Principles of E-commerce beginning on page 13 and each chapter has a brief summary at the end of the chapter that conveys the major takeaways of the chapter. I found that the chapters contained details that added value and the book is well written so the chapters read well.
One major takeaway is that you must control the order process to have a business. When a business relies too much on others, the “others” can change their rules and do major damage to your “business”. See, for a current example, what Apple’s change in its privacy rules has done to adversely impact Facebook’s business.
From the orders that I place on Amazon, I recognize many of the author’s recommended courses of action to encourage more sales. He also emphasizes that the hunt for more traffic online is more nuanced than simply adding unique visitors to your website.
He gives specific recommendations for websites to visit and online approaches to take to improve your business. If you have, or plan to start, an online business, I highly recommend that you read the book.
I like that this book is relevant (published in 2016) and definitely will teach you some things that an outdated college business class will fail to do. Do recommend this book. However, I also recommend that you read more books with delve into even more specifics on Facebook marketing. Furthermore, this book doesn't really delve into the power of influencer marketing as much as other books can. You'll need to look up "influencer marketing" on Amazon Kindle Store. However, this book is still filled with a lot of great advice but it could have more. Gretta Van Riel, Standford student, started her first business at the young age of 22-she has grown several eccomerce platforms and has made multi millions. This book doesn't mention her, however, I highly recommend that you check out her free content on YouTube to learn about powerful Instagram influencer marketing.
Another great book is called Sell Like Crazy, written by Sabri Suby. Definitely read this and Sell Like Crazy.
E-commerce Evolved should have included more details about e-commerce platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce and their pros and cons. For instance, I had to do my own research to learn that WooCommerce will upsell you on certain features mentioned in this book. You'll need to pay an additional $80/year just to be able to offer order bumps on WooCommerce, whereas it's already included with Shopify service. WooCommerce will also charge you an additional $200/year if you want to add a subscription service payment system to your site for consistent income. This book didn't share this with me I had to do my own research. Really make sure you know ALL the bonus and added fees before deciding on Shopify or WooCommerce.

Larsson markets himself and the products he sells in the book. He offers templates he wants you to download that he created in the book. It feels like bait to get you to spend more.
Lastly, his view on what our audience/ users/ customers are like is disheartening. He calls them lazy and simple-minded. We are trained to have empathy with our customers not call them lazy or infer they are dumb. I have to keep reading this book for my class, but every time I read it I just want to put it down.
Any one that is new to the e-com needs to read this book from cover to cover.

I love that this information is not only practical but it is exactly what the author uses for himself. He’s literally teaching you how to compete in his field of expertise.

It's like a Bible for ecommerce professionals. A good 15 years of proven ecommerce experience is what you will read about.
My only disappointment is now I see the very mistakes ecommerce websites are making. That I personally buy $700 to over $1,000 per month. I though this company was at the top on health supplements.
After reading this book, I'm now exposed to all the glaring mistakes even $18 million dollar websites make.
Competitive analysis is my favorite part of this book.
I’ve been trying to build an E-commerce brand for around a year now, and read around 15-20 books in the process. None of them even come close to E-commerce Evolved. It’s filled cover to cover with actionable and innovative ways to make your business successful. This book covers with intense detail, many crucial elements of online business that other books fail to cover at all.
While there are other skills you’ll have to learn in addition to this book, like copywriting, web design, and photography. I believe this book would be instrumental to any aspiring entrepreneurs success, and couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
