Eddington’s richly-grained olive wood is preferred over other materials for its long-life durability, versatility and beauty. Olive Wood is a tightly grained wood and Olive Wood utensils remain smooth and intact for a long, long time, whereas regular wooden spoons can start to fray around the edges fairly quickly. It is safe for nonstick cookware, and heat-safe to stir ingredients in a pan. It will not scratch porcelain, ceramic, glass or enamel and is stain- and odor-resistant. Occasionally coat with mineral oil to keep wood looking its best. The timber for Eddington’s Olive Wood is harvested only when olive production has ceased or branches are pruned. The wood embodies old world charm and is grown in Italy and made in Albania. One of Olive Wood’s chief attributes outside of being dense and hard is its beauty - nothing compares to the natural beautiful grain and durability of olive wood.

These spoons look to be 2 pieces- the handle is a simple dowel and the spoon is turned. The dowel is glued into the spoon/bowl. I don't know how long the glue will last, but if it separates it will be simple enough to re-glue. The wood is smooth and lightly finished. Over time I'll re-apply a drying oil of some kind to keep them sealed.
All in all these look like a nice product and will make great utensils and great gifts.
What a FANTASTIC SPOON!!! I just LOVE the extra long size. It's very sturdy & I've used it many times already. I hand wash & dry right away. Yes, you MUST OIL this spoon!!! After dry I just rub a tiny bit of olive oil or vegi oil & the beauty of the wood comes back even prettier. I've been cooking over 50 years & ALWAYS OILED my wooden spoons & NEVER let them soak in the sink & NEVER put in the dishwasher!!! It takes 20 seconds at most to wash & oil it. LOVE IT!!! Very well made...
I also bought HIC's olive wood spatula because they are that great, and the spatulas are awesome for flipping burgers or stirring foods in a skillet. I've tried other materials, and even other woods, but olive wood is the best. It doesn't fall apart, splinter, or really absorb the food (so it seems safer- my bamboo spoon started to splinter early on and was hard to clean, and I worried about touching raw meat or eggs with it because it's more porous).
I clean it by rinsing it with water, rubbing salt on it, and letting it air dry before storing it again. These spoons ROCK! And they are beautiful too :)
