Why on earth would you eat these, particularly in large quantities?

You can make a vegan, gluten free ricotta substitute with this, lemon juice and canola oil. Mix up the ingredients and then layer them between strips of Tinkyada lasagna. Bake for awhile in some tomato sauce, and you have fabulous vegan, gluten-free lasagna.

(If you want the recipe, e-mail me at the address above. I'd publish it here, but it then becomes property of Amazon, and it's actually going into my cookbook.)

I cook dried beans in large batches and put them in freezer containers, but like to have cans on hand for super fast meals or for when I want smaller amounts at one time. The canned beans are a bit softer than the home cooked ones, but still retain their shape and are particularly handy for salads of all kinds.

Great Northern beans combine beautifully with pinto beans for a great soup, either as a mixed bean soup or as the protein in a rich and hearty vegetable soup....or just for a big bowl of beans for a "beans and greens" meal. We also sometimes open and drain a can and use it to top a big main course salad, along with dried cranberries and feta cheese.

The fact that they are salt free in the can means you don't have to drain and rinse them several times like you do brands of canned beans that contain salt. The little bit of kombu (seaweed) that is in the cooked beans adds a bit of iodine to your diet which can be helpful if you use pure sea salt like we do - and even more so if you don't use any salt at all.

We use several Eden organic products because of their consistent quality and BPA free can linings and have been looking for the Great Northern beans at a decent price for many months. I was delighted to find them now on Amazon. I hope they continue to be available here.

One day, I was making a favorite bean and sausage soup and I started counting up the sodium content. For a "healthy" soup, one serving contained about 70% of the daily sodium requirements. Yikes! I jumped on Amazon and started searching for low sodium broth and beans. These beans were the ones I bought. I love them! they are delicious and are a fraction of a day's worth of sodium per serving (3.5 servings per can). And the added bonus is that the can liners are BPA free! The beans are a bit softer than other canned beans and if you, like me, like to cook up a big batch of soup and then freeze single servings for future meals, be aware that the soft beans get even softer after freezing/thawing/heating. Not a problem for me, but if your preference runs toward a firm bean, you may not be happy with these beans.

As a migraine sufferer I for the life of me couldn't figure out what I was reacting to. Then I happen to be looking in the Heal Your Headache by David Buchholz and he gives a chart showing potential sources of MSG, sure enough Kombu Seaweed was on there. It wasn't a vicious reaction so those not so sensitive might not have any issue.

It even says right on their website: "They are washed, soaked overnight, and thoroughly cooked with a bit of kombu sea vegetable. You don't taste the kombu, but its natural glutamic acid softens and enhances the flavor of beans."

"Enhances the flavor of the beans" - why are there flavor enhancers on Organic Beans from a company also advertising a BPA free lining in their cans? I for one, was blow away by the discovery on MSG on such a seemingly extremely healthy product.

Most of the cans I received in the shipment were dented. The beans tasted good but there was too much liquid in the cans. I measured three forth of a cup. Probably will not order again.

These are good beans. We mostly use them for chili. Most importantly, the cans do not contain BPA! I like to be able to whip up chili quickly by opening up a bunch of cans of beans without putting my endocrine system at risk!

Review title says it all really. I only buy Eden beans as their can linings do not contain BPA (unless there is tomato in what you're buying).

The beans are organic and they put some kombu in to add trace minerals. Because of this I don't discard the liquid; if the beans are going in a soup or other liquidy dish, then everything in the can is going in. Hope this helps.

Taste great and no chemicals for one and all. Eden is the only company I know of that takes the extra step to not have BPA linings in all their cans. If your beans are coming out of a can, I recommend these highly. Nice nutty beans, hearty, perfect cooked up with some good fresh greens and rice
