"A deftly written masterwork in the medical thriller genre, author John Benedict's "The Edge of Death" is the riveting sequel to his earlier novel "Adrenaline" and very highly recommended reading." -- Midwest Book Review, James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief
About the Author
Dr. John Benedict, husband and father of three sons, graduated cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and entered post-graduate training at Penn State University College of Medicine. There, he completed medical school, internship, anesthesia residency and a cardiac anesthesia fellowship. He currently works as an anesthesiologist in a busy private practice in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Benedict has been writing stories since high school, but his writing was put on hold to pursue a medical education and start a family. Finally, after a 15-year pause, he returned to the keyboard to scratch the writing itch again and thus Adrenaline, his first novel--a gritty medical thriller with a realism borne of actual experience--was born.
Besides creating scary stories, the hallmark of Dr. Benedict's writing is genuine medical authenticity--a rare commodity in thriller fiction these days. He draws on his 25+ years of experience as a board-certified anesthesiologist to infuse his writing with a realism that renders it both vivid and frightening. As one of only a handful of anesthesiologists throughout the country writing fiction, he gives readers a taste of what really goes on in the operating room, the human drama inherent in this high-stress, high stakes environment where lives are saved and sometimes regrettably lost. Readers will find out what it's like to hold someone's life in their hands, as the author provides an illuminating glimpse into the fascinating, but poorly understood realm of anesthesia.

This author is gifted in walking the line between plausible and impossible, which is one more reason this book (and series) is so enthralling.
My only regret is this author does not have more titles out. As soon as I see him publish another book I am getting it!
Cliff hanger, the ending Beth in the mountains, will there be a third installment?
PS I wondered why you named the "mad scientist" Mueller - seems a bit to Germanic for me but then I'm Dutch and some things are hard to forget.
When one of the clinic's anesthesiologist's wife is involved in an accident, the pathologist comes to the rescue with his life-saving technique.
In the midst of all of this, a couple of med students working at the hospital begin searching for the original ICU patient that has escaped, leading to discoveries about both the patient and process. This investigation leads to death, drama and love...of course!
Should I say that this is a "Near Drop Dead" book? Probably not, but it keeps your attention. Definitely read the Epilog for a bit more mind expanding matter.
