"This panther-shifting story has just about everything: ancient feuds, starcrossed lovers, a race against time, a tortured hero and an impossible task...New readers will have no trouble coming in at this point in the series, and a third book is set up nicely." —RT Book Reviews, 4 stars
"Edge of Oblivion, second in the Night Prowler series by J.T. Geissinger, starts off with intensity and never slows down … The paranormal romance genre is flooded with tales of shapeshifters, but Edge of Oblivion really stands alone because of the animalistic qualities of the characters, the social issues the novel and series address, as well as the high-quality writing from the author." —Romance Readers Connection
"Again J.T. Geissinger manages to keep me up past my bedtime...A wonderful book. ...4.5 stars." —Books, Cats, Movies & Coffee (Paranormal Book Lovers Blog)
"A sequel that has stepped up to be better than the first... J.T. Geissinger delivers!" —Night Owl Reviews, 4 1/2 stars
"Great follow up to Shadow's Edge. Geissinger creates strong female leads who take responsibility for their actions and are willing to put their lives on the line for those they love. ... While romance is dominant in the story it didn't take over and there was a plot full of little surprises that made for an all-round great read." —Book Chick City, 4 stars
"Awesome writing, a unique plot and the story goes to some really great locations throughout the world. ... I can't wait for the third book in the series to see where the author takes us." —The Jeep Diva, 5 stars
"Exquisite...A sublime example of paranormal romance...full of perfect pacing [with] almost Shakespearian intensity." —Books, Bones & Buffy
"Edge of Oblivion gave me everything I wanted...fans of Shadow's Edge will live [it] even more." —All Things Urban Fantasy

This book is better than the first ☺.
So this book seems to start a couple of weeks after the first book. Jenna and Leander are married and Jenna is settling into her role as Queen.
Morgan is charged with treason for her part in what happened at the end of book one. She is going to be executed. Remember though that Morgan put into action the betrayal before she really got to know Jenna, before she knew that Jenna was Queen. It is no excuse for what she did but it does make you feel a little more for her. Jenna still considers Morgan a friend and wants to give her a chance to live...
Jenna makes Morgan a deal. Morgan has two weeks to find the leader of the organization that tried to kill Jenna. If she can find the organization...she gets a full pardon, if she doesn't she dies.
"Time is a merciless thief."
Now Leander is not going to send her off alone so he sends an assassin with her...Xander. Xander is a professional killer and is assigned to help Morgan with her task but if she fails...he is the one that is going to kill her. He is so good at what he does...his torso is covered with tally marks (one for every person he has killed). He is a powerful Ikati.
Now at first, Xander and Morgan loathe each other. Morgan is a bit afraid of him...I mean he is a killer that is assigned to kill her...it doesn't matter that he is totally HOT!! Xander finds Morgan amusing...very different than any other female that he has been around.
They spend time together, challenge each other, out wit each other, start to feel...
Morgan of course has only wanted freedom, I mean that is why she did what she did in the first place...she is scared of these feelings that she has...
"Love, she had learned, was its own kind of prison. With chains and locks invisible but just as real and unyielding as those of steel."
Xander gets hurt...Morgan comes to the rescue, earning the respect of his fellow assassins...
"The assassin's code. Cross one, cross us all. Kill one, kill us all. Love one..." He cleared his throat. "Love us all."
Morgan goes into heat, cause you know she is a panther...Xander is more than willing to "help" and his "help" is super hot!!
They agree to be together physically just while she is in heat and then go back to being assassin and prey after...even though they both feel for each other but neither one of them wants to admit it.
There is just so much at stake...will she find the leader?? If not, can he do what he was charged with and kill her?? She would rather die than live without being free...
"One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly"
"I'd rather die on my feet than live on me knees..."
Can they figure out their lives together?? Good ending but did leave an opening for book 3!!
Morgan Montgomery is Ikati. She is powerful and electrifying and lethal. She is proud, regal and a born fighter...she's full of fire and intelligence. She has a sensual, magnetic appeal. She glides in her movement without noise.....graceful, sleek and elegant. And she's destined to be executed for treason against her own people.
Morgan has always wanted to live free - - to leave the massive compound to which her people gate themselves within.....for their protection. She has always longed for freedom...she's always felt caged and wants to be able to roam the world freely, without permission [from the Ikati Assembly]. Without threat of being hunted by her own....hunted, returned, convicted and caged. She wasn't born to hide or live like a domesticated animal. But now she's been granted a 2 week stay of execution for her acts of treason by the Queen of the Ikati.....a reprieve and a possible pardon. She must go to Rome, locate their enemy, the Expurgari and infiltrate their Colony to obtain certain vital information. She has to attempt and complete this mission in the company of Alexander Luna, aka: Xander...an Assassin known throughout the four Colonies of Ikati.
Xander Luna is known to many as "The Shadow", "The Hammer", and "The Wrath of God". He is an infamous Ikati killer - - one who tracks deserters and eliminates threats. He's all muscle and sinew and hardened grace. He moves with effortless fluidity and prowess. He captures attention and holds it with a menacing kind of charisma. He is carnal and deathly forbidding...and he has orders to kill Morgan if she fails in her mission within her two week time frame. That's his job. He's fine with that.
This Author has such an astounding talent of delivering precise and explicit dialogue/narrative (and character) details with perfect clarity and accuracy. Description of emotions and feelings are spot on direct and completely, deliriously consuming...propelling the reader...enthralling and engulfing us ..and placing us within the exciting story lines with absolute precision. In little time, you're quite invested emotionally with Morgan and Xander.
I loved reading each main characters POV...their perspective of thoughts. Their slow, rotating, capitulation of emotion. When an Author gives us each characters' POV, it add's emotional dimension and a direct connection beyond the norm...(at least it does for me). All you can do is buckle up tight and hang on - - and be thankful you found an author that can bring characters to life in such a fantastic, REAL way. You'll feel the desperate NEED and the despairing WANT and the hopeless LOVE that ignites and grows between these two characters as well as their sorrows and their debilitating loss. You'll feel them devour each other and comfort each other
All the supporting characters are equally delicious and I can only hold my breath in hope that each supporting character introduced in this story, will have their own adventure to share.
