1: By far, the Edge CTS that I have purchased from Amazon(the CTS is the touch screen model, but both the CT & the CTS do the exact same job)has the best screen. IF you plan to use this on a continuous basis to monitor your engine and yourself (your driving habits & performance?) then this screeen just might be worth the extra $200 you are going to have to pay above the cost of the other units. (You can read my evaluations on each of the others here on Amazon too.)
2: In the end, on all three units, for most applications to the Chevy engines(specifically, the 5.3L & the 6.0 L gas), the only program you will end up using is the one, single, High Performance Program settings. There is so little difference between any of their "Brand Specific Built in HP Programs" that no matter which Brand you buy, you will NOT be able to tell the difference between them.
3: With that being true above: there may be "some" diffence, but it is so slight, so little, that you will not detect any difference in mileage, power output, nor normal driving/OPS transmition functions. That does make sense too. There is only one goal in mind for each of those nice folks writing the program software: It must drive well, show some power improvement, and still be economical. (NOTE: I am NOT race inclined nor interested so that wasn't the focus of any of my applications and use.Read more ›
I feel that the price for this is a little on the high side, but if it does everything that I want it to do for me, then the extra cost is worth it. My vehicle is a 2006 Chevy Silverado model 2500HD 3/4 ton pickup with a 6.0 Ltr gas engine. I bought this truck a couple of months ago just prior to our first snow storm here in Minnesota, and so I really was not able to run any accurate comparison tests because of the poor weather conditions. Because of the large engine, and the fact that it's a fairly big truck, my fuel economy is horrible. During the very cold, snowy Winter days, I'm lucky to get much more than 8 MPG! So, my main reason for purchasing the CTS was to hopefully improve the fuel economy.
The first time that I plugged the unit into my OBD2 connector and tried to download the "Economy" tune, it did not work at all. I got an error message that said something about removing the Radio fuse! There was nothing stated in the user manual that mentioned anything about having to remove a fuse in order to change the programming of the ECU. Well, at that point I did not know where the radio fuse was located, and so I wanted to Cancel the programming function. Unfortunately, the device does not have a "Cancel" button that would cancel the process.Read more ›
There is certainly a power improvement, and a NOTICEABLE tightness to your shifts. I run this on the tow setting on my 04 F150 XLT with 4.6 V8 and get much more power than stock. The gas pedal has a significant touch to it when the CTS is active. Without it, the accelerator feels a little spongy and lacking in power, or like it's remembering that there's a V8 in there after you punch it. With the CTS, power is immediately available. I will say if you run this on the tow or any other package, upgrade your serpentine belt right away, check out the gator belts. On WOT you'll hear the belt slip during gear shift change.
More on the programmer itself.
The screen is bright, and has a dimmer automatically but this is able to be turned off if you like your screens bright all the time. All the dials can be changed for a myriad of readouts. I generally set mine to my avg mpg, air intake temp, among spark advance and gear position. This has logs for 1/4 mile times, 0 to 60, and many more. This will give you error codes so that you can look them up without having to take it to diagnostics at a shop. This will also clear codes if you need it too.
There are honestly many options on this thing and too many to list here.
I will say through experience HEED MY WARNING!!!!!
IF for whatever reason you take your vehicle to be serviced by ANY mechanic, MAKE SURE, that you set your EMS back to stock.Read more ›
