As a long-time fan of Dechairo's artwork on-line, I am thrilled to have this book. Dechairo is adept at capturing a moment, an emotion, a struggle -- and then opening it up in fine detail within a photograph or painting. In The Edge of Silence, she adds both poetry and prose as she explores the limits of grief, loss, and selfhood.
Dechairo gives an open, deep portrayal of the effects of chronic pain on the everyday, on those moments when "the irony splits you open." Inside that experience, time moves differently, its boundaries indistinct. This struggle comes through in Dechairo's words and artwork, woven so well together. Yet, above the struggle is a stronger spirit and determination, the power of "the quiet moments" when she -- and we, by extension -- "dreams the air beneath her wings."
The Edge of Silence is a treasure I am glad to have, something to dip into when I need a reminder of our simultaneous vulnerability and strength. Beautiful.
