Upon arrival I was amazed at the weight and build quality of these. It really has a featuristic look to it. Setup was straightforward. I connected both speakers together, then to the power supply & connected it to the TV via the headphone port. The only other means of connecting these speakers is via Bluetooth which is disappointing but I knew that when I chose them so I wasnt upset really.
After starting up my TV I flipped it to a random YouTube video. The sound was very clear and crisp in both the high and low and I was getting erally impressed. The real test I thought was to put on a good movie with tons of bass, intense music and the like. So I started up Black Hawk Down. And when the action started heating up I was blown away but the sound of these speakers. It was fantastic and I could make out the voices well without subtitles but still hear the intense action and sounds of black Hawks going past and minigun fire.
All and all, it's expensive but worth it. Get these speakera, you won't regret it
Initially, out-of-the-box, I was not impressed with these speakers. Despite having some decent specs like two 15W RMS & 22W bass, I found the audio to be somewhat anemic and lifeless. The bass wasn't very good either.
So I opened the Realtek equalizer settings in WIndows 10 and began to tune the sound. Wow, what a difference in sound quality~!! The audio became alive, clearer, more punchy, and the bass finally kicked in. For reference, I've included a screenshot of my Equalizer settings. It would've been nice if Edifier included software with the speakers that would've automatically tuned the sound for you.
Overall, I'm very happy with these speakers now. These speakers have great design, are good-looking, are easy to adjust volume and power on/off the unit using either the included remote control or touch controls, and the sound quality is very good (after manual tuning).
I highly recommend it.
Other reviews have left their impressions of the sound quality and I agree with many of them. My opinion with sound quality is that each person will have differences in opinion, and you really have to hear them first hand. It certainly is the gamble you take with buying them online. In my opinion, these speakers sound very good. As others have said, at very high volume, they do lack a bit, but that is the reality of many small speakers. I find that I never really play them at a high enough level where this is an issue. If you are different, then you might be well served to look at other options. Personally, I was a bit apprehensive about buying a speaker this size without it being part of a 2.1 setup. I was very happy with the amount of low end output these speakers delivered.
As mentioned, my primary use for these were as computer speakers and using the Aux input, they work great for this. In addition to this, I also connect my iPhone via Bluetooth and stream music to them when not using my computer. I never have any issues connecting the phone to them, it just works! My biggest complaint (if you want to call it that) with these speakers is that if you have a device connected via Bluetooth, the only way to switch to the Aux in is to disconnect the Bluetooth connection between the device and the speakers. Its certainly not the end of the world, its really more of a minor annoyance. One other note, and this is really not a big deal in my eyes, but may be for others, the volume controls are a bit slow to affect the volume levels. I believe this is due to the type of controls. They work just fine, but if need to be able to decrease the volume quickly, you will need to do so from the source of your audio (in my case, my computer or phone). I find, I rarely adjust the volume on the speakers themselves, but just use the audio source for that sort of thing. You might find that the remote would be quicker, honestly I never really use the remote.
In regards to durability, these sit on my desk all the time and rarely move, so I cannot speak to how well they would hold up if you chose to move them around frequently. In my case, they have been rock solid. I had one occasion where I found them to be powered off and it required that I remove and reapply power to get them working again. That was some time ago and I have not had an issue since. Overall, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. If I had a use case for them, I would easily purchase a second set without hesitation!
The look and design of these speakers made me want to find a way to keep them, but I ended up returning the set after a few days. I am now waiting on a pair of Audioengine A2+ speakers and am hopeful I find their sound more balanced.
