Thomas Edison Patent Prints
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most famous inventors in the world. His inventions were able to improve life in so many ways.
Light bulb - Thomas Edison invented the first commercially viable light bulb. Edison filed for his first patent for the incandescent lamp in 1879. This patent shows the improved light bulb that lasted much longer than his original invention. Although the idea was not originally his, it required the Edison genius to solve difficult problems that arose with the invention.
Telephone - Edison’s greatest contribution to the telephone was the ‘Carbon Button Transmitter’. On Alexander Bell’s telephone, one instrument had to act as the transmitter and receiver at the same time, but Edison separated them so the user would speak into one part and listen through the other. This is still used to this day.
Phonograph - The phonograph not only was Edison’s favourite invention, but it was probably one of the most original ever created. Edison was the first person to have the idea of recording sound for later reproduction. He received his inspiration while experimenting with the automatic telegraph.
Telegraph - Edison didn’t actually invent it – that honor belongs to Samuel Morse. What Edison did do, however, was improve the telegraph so that it became a faster, more efficient method of communication.
