The comments introducing the recipes are cute, too. "Edith" opines that Chinese cooks use white rice, so it does for her; that the secret to getting people to eat fish is to disguise the taste of it' and that good health ain't everything - there is such a thing as taste.
I gave it a 4, however, because it did reflect the fictional character and the times, so we see onion soup mix and cream of mushroom soup and so on in the recipes; and no yeast breads. But if you can get it cheap, you will probably get enough out of it to feel that you didn't waste your money. I'm wearing out my second copy of it, but I'm an old-fashioned cook, too.
