Product description
EDSYN | THE ORIGINAL SOLDAPULLT - MADE IN CALIFORNIA FOR OVER 60 YEARS
EDSYN has been successful in the design and manufacture of portable, hand-held desoldering tools for over 60 years. The removal of solder using a desoldering-pump is still one of the most popular and best methods available today. EDSYN invented and patented the world’s first solder sucker also known as SOLDAPULLT back in 1961 and continues to manufacture these tools in its factory in Van Nuys, California. Simplifying processes was the driving force behind the innovation that created the legacy we know as the SOLDAPULLT. These tools are easy to use, cost efficient and easy to maintain.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR DESOLDERING
Faulty components and design changes are just two reasons why the need to rework electronic assemblies exists. Rework requires skill and dexterity from the technician and having the right tools are essential in ensuring the end results are accomplished and professional. EDSYN has been successful in the design and manufacture of portable, hand-held desoldering tools for over sixty years and the removal of solder using a desoldering-pump is still one of the most popular and best methods available today.
DS017 CONTENTS
- 1 pc. DS017 "Original" SOLDAPULLT Hand Tool
- 1 pc. SRT12 Standard Tip
- 1 pc. ODS31 O-Ring
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE ORIGINAL SOLDAPULLT
Each EDSYN SOLDAPULLT operates on the principle of a spring-loaded plunger in a barrel. The plunger extends the full length of the barrel before being drawn back into the barrel to create a strong vacuum impulse. A trigger button activates the plunger including the self-cleaning shaft which acts as a valve during the initial vacuum stroke. As the shaft leaves the tip, a high-vacuum impulse force is created to lift the molten solder. These features are proprietary and have made EDSYN's desoldering tools "world famous" for decades.
EASY TO MAINTAIN WITH THE OPTIONAL MAINTENANCE KIT
Optional maintenance kit - DS017MK - comes with everything you need to keep the EDSYN DS017 SOLDAPULLT working at its best. The DS017MK maintenance kit includes the following items:
- 1 pc. ODS31 O-Ring
- 1 pc. SRT12 Standard Replacement Tip
- 1 pc. OL111 O-Ring Lube
- 1 pc. CB138 Cleaning Brush Tool
THREE HEAVY DUTY MODELS TO CHOOSE FROM
There are 3 models to choose from for heavy duty and industrial usage; models DS017, AS196 and DS017LS. All these tools will quickly and efficiently desolder larger PCB connections, terminals and connectors. The portable size of these pumps delivers easy one-handed loading and operation. A simple push-button trigger quickly releases the oversized plunger to create an immediate and direct vacuum impulse at the desoldering tip; while the integral cleaning shaft self-cleans the tip each time the tool is reloaded. A convenient bayonet twist barrel allows each of these pumps to be taken apart for fast routine cleaning. They are all manufactured using durable corrosion resistant materials for a longer life. The table below highlights the differences enabling you to choose the right tool for your specific job.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2010Since I needed a desoldering tool right away, I bought a cheap one from R____ S____ It's cheap, it works, but not well: DESOLDERING PUMP Unlike that one, the Edsyn works with little or no "recoil"... that wouldn't seem to matter, but if you're aiming the tip at a junction and the pump "jumps" when you release the plunger, it doesn't help. The Edsyn's barrel is much larger, so it will move a greater volume of air and will clean a solder joint very effectively. Parts are replaceable and it's made in the USA!
Update: I don't know why Amazon doesn't carry the DS017 any more but there is a similar one: Edsyn Desoldering Pump, PT109, Soldapullt III Same tips, smaller bore, longer stroke. Whatever.
Also: Try Edsyn's website - they sell the DS017 directly, and at a good price.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2009Don't confuse this with it's smaller relitives! This thing sucks!!! In the GOOD way! I had tried using one like this but smaller and I swore I'd never go back. My co-worker and I work on hospital equipment and he said I should try his Soldapullt once instead of the de-soldering iron with a bulb pump on a project that we were working on. I'll never mess with a de-soldering iron again. This thing will suck every last bit of solder off a board or whatever you are working on. The only thing that I have used that works better is one of those really expensive de-soldering irons with an electic pump for constant suction. I did buy an extra tip for mine for less than $3 although I don't think I'll ever have to replace it. I TRIED to melt what seems like a plasic tip on this thing and it withstood the heat. I see that there is another product on here called the Soldapullt III but I know that this one works so I'm buying one for myself. Hope this reveiw helps!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2011This solder-sucker is worth the extra cost. It has a lot more suction than the standard (cheaper) vesions and pulls the solder out of the PCB holes with muscle to spare. I've used the smaller, cheaper solder-suckers and this is definitely an upgrade I would recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2010this bitch is bad. sucks really hard. construction is top notch.
beware not to test it on your skin bc it will give you miniature hickies.
great stuff.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2011What more can I say? The thing is a beast. Durable as hell. I routinely throw it at people I don't like. Don't even bother with ones from other companies. Buy this one and you can hand it down to your kids like my father did.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2010Let me just say that after using the Radioshack craptastic soldering vacuum, this thing was a godsend. Really powerful, no recoil, and the nozzle is wider to extract a lot more solder per pump. Unfortunately, it broke after less than a week of occasional use; the top flew off as I was depressing the plunger, a piece of the plastic threading had broken off and something else broke off inside of the tip, rendering it useless. I was worried from the get-go, since the plastic construction just felt flimsy to me, and the amount of force needed to ready each pump seemed to put quite a bit of strain on the body.
Maybe I just got a lemon, since it seems to have a good reputation elsewhere. But I'm not really keen on spending another $20+ to find out.
