Says it’s a game that promotes matching. The object of the game is to match by shell/pattern....but each “type” of shell only has one pattern. Like all of the long shells have stripes and only stripes, and all of the round type shell have only polka dots. So you don’t really need to look at the pattern to make a match, making the educational value kinda pointless. It would be better if each type of shell had a different pattern on each to vary it a bit. ......unless I got a dud set.
I bought it for my VERY smart 4-year old niece. She did love the game, but wasn't always so great at the concepts it was trying to teach. However, its easy to play and mostly involves matching. So there are ways to get around "the rules" if you just want to collect shells and match them. I think as she gets a bit older she'll be able to better enjoy playing by the rules. My 2 yr old niece didn't get the game, but loved to collect the "pretties' which is a win in itself.
