Santa has been the keeper and deliverer of Christmas for hundreds if not thousands of years in one form or another. He’s tired and ready to take a break. Under-Claus has other plans – dastardly ones! It is now up to Alarick Aldrich and his son, Rooney and other members of the E.L.F. Liberation Force to save Santa and the magic of Christmas. Can they do it? Will the girls and boys of the world be disappointed come Christmas morning?
This is a delightfully fun book that takes the holiday and magic of Christmas and makes it even more exciting. One should not overlook the subtle yet poignant teaching of patience, love, believing, morals and other truths that sometimes become hidden. A masterful painter of words, Devra Robitaille takes the story of Santa and makes it fresh and new again.
“As of next year,” he announced, there will be no more sleigh deliveries. Everything will be done by drone, no more messy reindeer and I have decided …” he paused and cleared his throat, “ahem … I mean Santa has decided …”
Robitaille's tale tries to move Santa and Christmas into the 21st Century kicking and screaming. The dialog created by Robitaille is mesmerizing and realistic. As one reads further into the story, character development is intense and realistic – the dialog helps to highlight the characters growth and who they are. The Under Claus is so vividly and richly described through his actions and dialog one can only see him for who he truly is in this story. The emotions invoked by Santa, Alarick and others is so realistic, one could lose sight of this being fictional.
Children and young adults alike will love this story. A fantastic fairy tale mixed with epic myths and legends, the story is riveting and captivating.
“Santa took up his position in the front driving his war chariot, which had been long forgotten in the back of the compound, unused for centuries. Alarick and Knotty Pine and Luca had cleaned it up and made it shine for the first battle with the drones.”
The reader cannot help but be drawn into the book – cheering on Santa and his army; praying that the Under Claus is defeated. This is an excellent book that drives home the importance of love, family, the magic of Christmas and goodness. Well written and developed clearly. This is a book that should not be missed or forgotten; I plan to read this to my grandchildren when they visit because I know they will LOVE it!
WordsAPlenty gives this book a solid 5 star rating for its creativity and reinforcement of all things important.
