Following a hospitalization for heart trouble, the doctors suggested a low sodium diet and to be very mindful of portion sizes, especially when counting your sodium intake. I didn't think it would be all that hard since I rarely salt my foods. Boy, was I in for a surprise!
I bet you'd never guess that a small can of Campbell's soup is actually TWO servings! Each can have as much as 650mg of sodium! I'm learning that what I once thought was healthy, really isn't! A plain tortilla, for example, packs a whopping 860mg of sodium! In ONE taco size tortilla! When the recommended sodium intake on a low sodium diet is 1500mg or less in a day, you start to make some serious changes!
I bought these cups to help me watch my portion sizes. At first, I thought they were "adorable" and "tiny". Let me tell you, they hold PLENTY of food. Following the plan that comes with this set, I am honestly not even able to eat it all every meal! It's far more food than I thought!
I love these so much I bought an extra set to help me portion a day or two in advance. I would make ONE minor suggestion to the small family business that sells these.
Consuming 5 helpings each of fruits and veggies every day is pretty hard. Especially these days. I have started using the cups to portion fruits and veggies which I then blend into smoothies using vanilla almond milk and honey Greek yogurt (by the way, they are AMAZING and for someone who actually HATES most vegetables, this is a great way to get them into the diet!). Maybe you could include a section to help those, like me, who aren't huge veggie fans, so we can learn new ways to sneak them into our new diets? Just a minor idea. Other than that, keep it up! These are awesome!

So these containers are a good deal. If you are putting in something that has a lot of liquid, just don't let them stay tipped over. It will leak. It won't leak like crazy or anything but it happens.
The plan- I was tired of counting calories. And, sometimes, I need a bit more guidance. I know what I should eat, but I don't plan well if I'm just counting. That's my fault all the way, but I like this change. You don't count calories, you just eat according to the plan. For example, say you're supposed to eat four purples a day (that could be right, but this is just an example). Purple is fruit. The guide tells you what fruits would qualify as purple and the container itself is the portion you should eat. Four portions of that size a day. The green is vegetable, and you can use it to help make a salad or certain dishes- don't limit yourself to just eating that container full of celery unless you're really into celery. And so on.
Pros- I don't go hungry or feel deprived on this plan and I like the guides.
Cons- This, like many "diet" plans, makes spontaneity a bit difficult. I've come up with a couple of go-to items I can get at restaurants and know that I'll usually have to cut the portion and take some home.
The 21 Day Fix DVD (there is no DVD with this) is just a 30 minute daily workout that mixes cardio and strength training. Add in your own exercise and this is a great alternative to spending 75 bucks or so on the 21 Day Fix.
