I came away my first experience thinking "This is so complicated...it's boiling eggs, not rocket science". Basically you have all these parts; each "eggie" cup is made up of a top, bottom, and little ring thingy, and they have to be coated with a little oil (I used cooking spray) and then break the egg in to the assembled compartment one at a time and then put those ring thingys on. For someone who is used to putting fresh raw eggs in a saucepan, filling up with water and turning on the stove, this seemed a bit like overkill. I followed the directions, and I'll be darned if those eggs of mine came out looking just...a mess. Just not as good as when I usually make eggs. I am convinced that some companies use human laziness as fodder for gimmicky stuff like this...we have to learn the hard way (by being out $$$) that the tried and true way is the best way. These were given to me so I don't take it the wrong way, but I doubt that I might have spent money on something like this from the start.
And the dirty little secret, that I have learned with trial and error, is this: If you peel eggs while they are still relatively warm, even hot, the thin membrane is still attached to the shell and they peel MUCH easier. If they are too hot I run them under some cold water until it is comfortable to touch and then I peel my eggs. Cold hard-boiled eggs are difficult to peel, it's like that membrane sticks to the egg and you feel like you are taking chunks of it off and that is why people think peeling eggs is such a pain. Just rinse your freshly boiled eggs under some cool/cold water and see for yourself. I gently rap it against the counter to get a crack started. Shell comes off like a charm. Well, that's the truth and you didn't even have to buy that one from me. :-)
