This is such a tough task - oral translation.

In the quiet of the Tibetan Library in Dharamsala, India, Ruth Sonam (no, she is neither married to Geshe Sonam nor is she related to him in any way!) takes her place as Genla's (Geshe Sonam Rinchen) trusted aide to translate even as he elaborates on the intricacies of the Dharma. In his Kham accent, Genla opens a text/topic of the day and Ruth and he get to work.

For those unfamiliar with Tibetan Buddhism, these lectures are delightful. Yes, sometimes the lectures do tend to get lengthy and intricate but there are also the insightful anecdotal punctuation marks that relieve the intensity of the talk. Try and attempt one of these books by the master and his trusted translator. This one book, especially, is simple. Eight verses, eight commentaries. Nothing that should have you rolling your eyes and sighing! Quite an easy read and very, very simple. If you are thinking 'Tibetan Book of the Dead'...no, no...I can assure you, I am thinking more like a digestible form of an essay by a practitioner who realizes the intellectual level of a beginner. Eminently recommended.

This book presents a difficult and marvelously liberating approach of surrender to overcome suffering in our interactions with others. A great spiritual teaching invites you to leave your ego at the door. These verses encourage you to melt it away altogether by unconditionally venerating others and putting their interests above yours.
