--Los editores --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

As a Mexican-American I can attest that how he describes Mexican culture, our subconscious, and the underlying issues that shape even perhaps our personality is very true to life.
To better understand this book one should not only see it as how close it matches our "mexican reality" but for us to also transport our views to understand how history shapes people.
It doesn't matter if the book was written decades ago, we can easily compare that to our ancestors, our grandparents, and parents and we will surely see the traces. As a young woman or teenager I feel I might have not taken as much as I am able now as an adult.
It is also very good in describing American culture, and I saw a comment where someone got offended, but I feel Octavio Paz describes everything with depth, and although some sentences seem too direct, perhaps harsh, as we continue to read we are then engaged in a very descriptive and profound personal analyzation that seems genuine and neutral.
Octavio Paz is an excellent writer, interesting sentences, enjoyable to read, surprising at times, poetic at others, a great mix of abstract combinations.
If you know Mexican people, or have traveled to Mexico, or have friends you will definitely understand them better and even perhaps better then they do! by reading Octavio's abstract study on the subject.
