That said, the game is great. Same gameplay as the Tamriel Unlimited game but with the beauty and mystery of the Morrowind world (which is still my favorite Elder Scrolls game). Tons of quests, tons of people playing and I haven't experienced any lag or drop outs.
Overall a great expansion to an already great game, once it's installed that is :)
I say exactly since you do go through Morrowind in a different era and you can see that the intro to the region is the same. LOL Except you aren't a prisoner this time. Nice little addition.
Other than some characters and locales, this is 100% an MMO and an expansion to The Elder Scrolls Online.
I honestly wasn't hooked with TESO in its vanilla release no matter how much I tried, but for some reason, I'm enjoying this expansion and the updates they've done since. Perhaps, it's also the new class, Warden, that drew me in. This class uses nature, animals, healing and some spells to pretty much be a druid class. I'm so into that combination. My new character is an Archer Druid type character, so it's cool.
Another interesting point is your adventure hook. Unlike in the vanilla game where you were someone who was killed and taken to purgatory (pretty much) to slave away for all eternity and then escape back to the world and help a prophet figure out a way to kill a powerful evil god (which is still doable), Morrowind starts a little more subtle and you can choose to attempt that over the top campaign anytime by taking a boat to any part of the world outside of Morrowind.
This new start helps make the story relatable by starting simpler and building up from there.
The game is totally solo-friendly, I play solo for the most part. It feels like Skyrim and it doesn't due to many MMO features that are mostly obvious is random other heroes jumping around and the mechanics of combat. Combat is fundamentally turn based. Cooldowns, casting and hit boxes. Even if you dodge, most of the time, you'll still get hit.
Biggest wish was that this game was more open world multiplayer action RPG than MMO, but it's good for what it is. :)
PRO TIP: Research what you are pre-ordering or buying before they ship so you don't feel cheated that you didn't get a remake of an ancient classic. :P
The second huge problem is you have to be Scrooge McDuck to get anything out of this game. They charge a ridiculous amount for any and everything on this game. So I bought this game on the PC and it came with "any race, any faction" and the Imperial playable race but my computer ages and I get it on PS4 and all that is gone and there I am paying almost as much as I paid for the game in the first place getting these stupid add-ons. Even small things, like say, an extra character slot.... $15. Oh and did I mention you have a cap on how many characters you delete? Why could that even matter how many you create and delete; with all the classes and abilities, it's going to take a while to make one that works and you need to (of course) buy things to change your appearance, race, or name. If you can get a viable character on your first try, more power to you, but I sure can't. I know this is kind of a strange gripe, but a good example of how you don't have ANY control over your gaming experience unless you are able to spend some serious money. I almost laugh/cried when I saw the free player home... It's about the size of a jail cell and can only fit ONE trophy inside. You can buy furniture if farming for gold (or buying gold) is all you want to do. And you can make your own furniture but just wait until you see how much materials you need to make anything. You almost need all 8 characters they give you just to farm the materials needed to make anything.
And finally, there is no in-game support. You go online and they just send you out to the forums or send you to Sony, Microsoft or whoever to solve your problem. I wanted to just voice my frustration about the "deleting cap" but I couldn't. You just get an email that says that you can recover a deleted character but it could "erase your bank." What a piece of junk... Bethesda was one of my favorite companies but it has me running into the arms of Blizzard and Sony Entertainment Online with terrible customer support. If you are the kind of person who can spend $10,000 a month on a phone game you will really get a lot out of this game, but if you are (or were) used to a $50 game and $15 a month subscription for access to everything, this isn't the game for you.
