Greyson East left his mark on me.

It is always amazing to me the depth of the characters, situations and growth that authors are able to put into words on paper. It captures hearts and makes you feel like you are part of a different world. Brittainy Cherry does it again, Eleanor and Grey find each other in life when they truly need that person and the strength that they put into life is so capturing that I could not put this book down until it was finished.

More of This. Yes, please More of This. More amazing, beautiful and quality writing like this is what we need in this world. Brittainy Cherry is so freaking talented. I don’t know how she does it but every new book of hers tops the last, and so on. She’s always in my top list and definitely a one-click/must read ARC/must have the paperback as well. She’s just amazing. And this book, was simply beautiful!

First, I need to be super honest about something. If you follow my reviews you know I love second chance romances, I live for them. Also if you follow my reviews, you know that stories that deal with dead spouses stories are not my thing, like at all. I normally run away from them or end up hating them (with very few exceptions). Since this is B. Cherry, and I simply read her books without even looking at the blurbs, I had no idea what this was about, and even though this is indeed a second chance romance, the hero is a widower in the present time. I have to admit that once I realized there was a dead spouse involved I hesitated for a second, but this book, this book was so beautiful and engaging that I just couldn’t stop reading it and it just simply broke all my walls and biases.

Eleanor and Grey meet as teenagers and share a very special relationship full of pure teenage love. Grey was there for Ellie when she needed him the most, during the hardest moment of her life. But as with life, things change and they simply grew apart away from each other. Over 15 years later, Eleanor finds herself working as a nanny for Greyson, now a widower and father to 2 girls (one little, the other a teenager). Greyson is now a shadow of what he used to be, mostly due to his family life crumbling around them due to the death of his wife. Eleanor’s job is not easy, at all, she has to deal with a family that experienced the greatest loss of all and it’s in her nature just to help, whether it’s welcomed or not. And what a ride it is. This book explores all kids of different love, it explores loss, it explores grief, but above all it gives you so much hope, especially after heartbreak.

I loved how this story developed, it was just so perfectly paced, nothing was rushed. It’s written in two parts. First it established the relationship between Ellie and Grey when they were teenagers and then moved on to the future and the current situation. Like love, the story was patient, it took its time and everything was just explored and explained in such a way that you just can’t help but feel completely satisfied with the outcome. Like I said, I’m normally not a fan of these stories, mostly because I feel like they’re usually not done well and there’s always a second best feeling always lingering. But this one was nothing like that, this one just raises above all others and I truly believe it’s the pacing and the slow burn, not to mention the development of the main character’s relationship in the front-end (when they were teenagers).

At this point, I’m just rambling and probably not making much sense. But I will say this, this book is amazing. Such a beautiful story. I will admit that I cried like a baby at parts, I just couldn’t stop crying I was so moved by Brittainy’s words and her flawless storytelling. I need a Shay and Landon book, please. The only thing I would’ve loved was an epilogue, just cause I live for epilogues. But again, I loved every second of this book. My heart is just so happy after finishing this book. I absolutely recommend it!

3.5 stars — I think I wanted this one to be a 5 star so badly, but it just wasn’t. The beginning was SO STRONG. I absolutely adored Part One of the book, it sucked me in and made me feel and I was invested in Ellie & Grey.

But I felt like part two didn’t quite match up with part one. I felt like Ellie wasn’t quite the same woman we’d come to know in part one, and while obviously her life is going to change her a bit, she just didn’t feel consistent enough. I was also disappointed that we never really got to understand what Ellie was up to in the *16 YEARS* they were apart. We got hints, but it wasn’t enough for me, especially given how much she changed.

I was completely surprised by the narrative surrounding Grey and his grief, and while it took me aback initially, I appreciated that there wasn’t something additionally sinister to the whole thing. It was truly a story of grief, and learning to love again when you had the perfect love. I guess I was just expecting a different kind of angst, and it made it so hard to invest in Ellie & Grey as a couple at times. But on the other hand, it was refreshing to read this storyline where someone with a true love gets to find love again.

There were so many bright spots in this book, and the brightest was probably the frank way it looks at grief, and the way different people mourn, and how there are no right and wrong answers. I absolutely loved seeing Ellie try to fit in with Grey’s family, and then try to help his girls. I truly believed that she fell in love with them as well.

It was, ironically, the romance that I felt let down by. Not completely, but it really didn’t blow me away. I really loved the connection that they had with one another, but something…something was missing. I was initially taken aback by some twists and turns in their relationship, but on the other hand it was refreshing that it didn’t follow certain rules… It felt real. But I guess it was also real in that often love is quiet and understated, and I kind of wanted something a bit bigger and more fictional for them. And yes, I do get how silly that might sound. I loved that Grey was so in love with his wife, but then I guess I wanted something *that big and amazing* for him and Ellie. And I didn’t get that.

There was a pretty great cast of characters in this one, from ones who played a huge role to ones who played smaller roles. I loved the many different kinds of family relationships that were explored, some amazing, some not so much. And not just in part two, but part one as well (particularly loved Ellie’s Mom). And within those families, I felt like there was lots of real talk. They dealt with some gritty stuff, and in general it was very well done.

I’ve noticed a pattern to Ms. Cherry’s writing, and while I LOVE some aspects, occasionally they felt overdone in this one. She often repeats phrases throughout the story, and I actually really love that. But she repeated quite a few phrases instead of just one or two key ones, and it lost its impact for me.

I feel like part one was 5+ stars for me, and had me wanting to shout about it from the rooftops. But part two was only maybe 3 stars. It had many great moments, but in the end I felt underwhelmed and disappointed…probably mostly because the first part was so strong, and I wanted “more of that”.

Sono dell’idea che leggere un libro scritto dalla Cherry, per noi lettori è un grande onore. Lei è una di quelle autrici che riesce a trasmettermi emozioni indescrivibile, riesce a farti il cuore a pezzi, ma in senso positivo. Non voglio dilungarmi troppo nell’elogiare l’autrice, altrimenti diventerebbe una recensione infinita, quindi passiamo a parlare di questo capolavoro.
Eleanor e Greyson sono amici sin da adolescenti, quello che era iniziato con una semplici sfida per parlare con la ragazza stramba della scuola, si è trasformato in qualcosa di più bello, qualcosa di inaspettato per entrambi.
Eleanor è sempre stata titubante dei comportamenti degli altri, una ragazza solitaria, sempre sulle sue. Il suo modo di divertirsi alle feste era un po’ diverso, quasi unico. Immergersi nella lettura di un libro e con le cuffie, per estraniarsi dal mondo.
Greyson si avvicina ad Eleanor per poter conversare, ma lo blocca subito sul nascere, perché quello che Greyson non sa è che Eleanor in realtà non sta ascoltando musica, che le cuffie sono lì per scena per far credere appunto alle persone di non voler parlare con nessuno.
Da quel giorno le cose sono cambiate, Elenaor e Grey diventano amici, anzi diventano qualcosa di più. Per Eleanor non è un bel momento e la vicinanza di Greyson le è d’aiuto. Ma questo momento condiziona la loro vita, il loro rapporto, ed Eleanor è costretta a trasferirsi in Florida, allontanandosi così da Grey.
Lettori, questa prima parte è stata un concentrato di emozioni, i protagonisti si conoscono meglio andando avanti, una semplice amicizia si evolve in qualcosa di romantico. In questo periodo conosceranno altri lati di loro che non mostrano facilmente, le loro fragilità, le loro debolezze e i loro punti di forza.
Nella seconda parte ci ritroviamo anni dopo, Eleanor è alla ricerca di un lavoro come babysitter. Il lavoro per cui si candida consiste nel guardare due bambine, ma quello che non si aspettava era di incontrare di nuovo il ragazzo di cui si era innamorato da adolescente. Quello che non si aspettava è che Greyson East fosse il padre di quelle due bambine. Piccoli gesti faranno riaffiorare alla memoria vecchi ricordi, emozioni ormai sopite vedono la luce.
mi sentite piangere? Se la prima parte vi ha emozionata, la seconda farà il vostro cuore a pezzi. Conosceremo un Greyson diverso, duro con sé stesso e con le sue figlie, un Greyson che sembra non vedere Eleanor come la sua vecchia fiamma, la ragazza di cui era innamorata tanti anni fa, ma una semplice tata.
La Cherry riesce a toccare note del mio cuore con il suo modo di scrivere, riesce a raggiungere il mio cuore e farmi emozionare come non mai. Impossibile non amare i personaggi. Nella prima parte Greyson è un ragazzo che vede qualcosa in quella ragazza solitaria, mentre Eleanor vede in lui qualcuno realmente interessato a lei e non solo come semplice sfida.
Nella seconda parte le cose cambiano, abbiamo un Greyson diverso com’è giusto che sia. La vita è stata difficile con lui, ha cambiato il suo comportamento, la sua tempra. Ma il tempo ha cambiato anche Eleanor, è più forte di quella che era un tempo pur rimanendo la stessa ragazza dolce e umile.
Avranno modo di confrontarsi, chiarire alcuni punti e anche rivangare il passato e vivere vecchi ricordi.
Insomma, un turbinio di emozioni dall’inizio alla fine. Un continuo sali e scendi, avete presente le montagne russe? Sei lì, che sali e arrivata alla punta, pronti per scendere… eccomi che inizio a piangere.
Non mi vergogno nel dire che nella seconda parte ho pianto praticamente sempre, è stato inevitabile. Leggere la Cherry è come leggere noi stessi, in ogni libro ritroviamo un pezzo di noi ed anche qui mi sono vista un po’ nell’Eleanor adolescente. Greyson cerca di andare avanti, di superare il suo momento buio e ritornare a vivere, e lo farà grazie all’aiuto di Eleanor.
Ho amato anche i personaggi secondari, Landon e Shay. Presenti, ma non in modo eccessivo, importanti nella storia, vi faranno ridere e sono sicura che vorrete conoscere qualcosa di più su di loro.
Ormai conoscete il modo di scrivere della Cherry, senza che ve lo dica, ma se non lo conoscete, dovete assolutamente recuperare. Quindi, se siete alla ricerca di un romanzo che vi farà piangere, ma anche innamorare dei personaggi, questo è il libro che fa per voi.
Vi ricordo che Brittainy C. Cherry torna in Italia grazie alla Newton Compton Editori con Dolce Amaro (Disgrace) e con Al di là delle stelle (Behind the bars). Non perdetevi queste uscite.
Riguardo Eleanor&Grey vi dirò, ci saranno altri due libri “collegati” in qualche modo a questo romanzo. Il primo su Landon & Shay, mentre il secondo su Karla.

4.5 Stars – Pain, love and the struggles of life at its best.

I experienced this book step by step, page by page, without knowing what’s going to happen. I didn’t read the blurb and I went in blind because hello?! it’s a Brittainy Cherry book, there’s no need to know beforehand what it’s about because I’ll read it anyway.

The book was split into two parts. The first one was the hardest to get through with bittersweet moments and the tough parts of growing up, but also with two adorable teenagers who found strength in each other and a reason to smile every day.
I’m not going to lie, this broke my heart so badly. It hit so close to home for me and I know that if you’ve experienced something similar in your proximity whether by yourself or through your family or friends, this story will have a big impact on you.

During this tough read, I asked myself why I did this to myself. Why I read this heartbreaking and painful story when I knew beforehand that it would shred my heart to pieces?! Well, I'm a sucker for those reads and I knew that if there's one author who's able to write a heartfelt story like that, so beautiful in its hurtful way, it’s Brittainy Cherry.
Her words are like air to breathe. Sometimes its hurt like when you take a deep breath in a freezing cold winter storm, not being able to draw a full breath but just small gasps for air which still hurt in your lungs. But then there are also times when the spring air greets your nose with the fresh smell of blooming flowers and trees and you know that you're still here and able to draw lungful of clear air which makes you feel like being reborn.
Enough of being poetic, in short I just wanted to say that no matter how hard it seemed at times, there was enough light in the darkness to lead me through this beautiful story.

Needless to say how intense this book was. If you’ve read a book by this author before, you surely know of her writing that touches you deeply and goes straight to your heart.

As a reader myself I connected to Ellie’s young character instantly because she was just like me. We had so much in common and I adored her. And Grey! OMG wasn't he the sweetest? AWWW!

Ellie was a nerd and so similar to myself. She kept to herself, felt safest in her bedroom, loved to read and to keep the outside world away with her headphones on.
When Greyson entered her life, everything changed. He was such a sweet, humble, caring and thoughtful young boy who had it tough at home with his constantly fighting parents. Ellie and Grey were adorable and I enjoyed their teenage crush so much. I loved even more how supportive he was, so incredibly thoughtful and considerate, and that he was always there for her even from a distance.
This was definitely one of my ugliest cries and although I knew what was coming, there’s just no preparing for anything like that. Grief is hard no matter what.

When Part 2 began, I was a bit thrown because while it’s been almost sixteen years since the characters have seen each other, it was only one page in a book for me. So I needed to adapt to the changes in Grey’s character first because they were very brutal and I missed the carefree and fun boy from the past. It made me cry even more to see how hard his edges had become and how cold and distant he was, swallowed by the grief and struggling with life. It was heartbreaking to see him at such a low point and I wanted to take him in my arms and squeeze him tight. My heart ached for him so badly.

Part I was a full on 5 star read. And as much as I loved and hurt with Part II, I couldn't shake the feeling of there being another woman between Ellie and Greyson. Not in the flesh but somehow in between of what they had when they were kids. It didn't seem as strong of a bond especially from his side and I felt that he needed her more because of his grief than because he wanted her for the love. Don't get me wrong, I loved the story no matter how painful it was to read and I was crying so hard and so much during the story and my heart ached with the characters but I felt more chemistry between the characters in the first part than later on in the book.
It's just that while for the characters almost sixteen years had passed, it was just a page and a second for me between their childhood and adult life. So when I experienced Greyson as the young, outgoing and sweet boy, and then shortly after met him as the closed-off, almost drowning in pain, grieving father, I had troubles of finding the love again between him and Ellie. Which was also understandable because he's still in love with another woman and was grieving for his lost love, the person he had spent a long time with together with their kids. There was so much history between them and I couldn't shake that no matter how much I loved Ellie and wished for her HEA.

Also, as beautiful everything was written, in the second half of the book, some thought processes from Ellie felt to be repeated and forced to have more beautiful words in it just for the sake of it. They didn’t have any more impact on the story because it was already heavily loaded with feelings and meaning. It just wasn't necessary to overuse and overdue it like that but it was just a minor thing and not as bad as it sounds from my poor explanation of what I mean. I just think that sometimes less is more.

But everything considered, after this book gave me so much heartache and pain, but also love and hope, I couldn't give this a different rating because I absolutely loved it.

Eu AMEI do início ao fim! Odeio livro de babá que se apaixona pelo viúvo e vice versa, mas esse é extremamente diferente e inesperado, e esse clichê se torna até um plot twist! O fato da história começar na adolescência e a segunda parte se passar na vida adulta deles me cativou demais também. A Ellie é uma protagonista que agrega, ensina, inspira e todas as minhas marcações no livro foram dela falando da mãe!
