However, there are some major issues with it. First, the thermostat/plug does not fit well at all. It is constantly coming loose and falling out just enough that it won't engage the pan. You'll be cooking one minute and the next minute you will notice your bacon not cooking, your oil not bubbling, your pancakes doing nothing, etc... Then you will go jiggle the thermostat and it will start heating up again. We actually have to shove it up against a wall to make sure the plug stays engaged in the pan.
Another issue we have with it is the loud sounds as it is heating up. Others have pointed it out too. It is true and it happens a lot, especially since the thermostat comes out all the time and we have to plug it back in, which causes everything to reheat.
UPDATE February, 2015: The frying pan has just about died about 2 months before it turned 1 year old. It overheats almost every time we use it now and burns whatever we are cooking. This very expensive electric skillet is now going to the dump. Last time I buy anything from this company.
The easy-release (aka "break-away") temp controller connection works as it needs to work; it will pull out of the socket before the pan is pulled off of your counter.
I saw another review in which the user was complaining that that connector is "loose" but the conx on mine was of the easy-release type. A locator spike aligned the electrical connectors and kept the controller in place.
All in all, this pan is very nice though it is a little pricey and the 16 inch size is a bit large for my storage area.
fits snugly and it sits level. The problem is that it has hot spots. So when browning you will have to tend
to your dish in a diligent manner. Don't turn your back or the hot spots will begin to burn. If you're looking for a
skillet for frying....again the hot spots need tending to or it will quickly overheat your oil and your breading will not stick.
Wife loves it and that's all that matters!
I have had it for a few weeks now and I have made french toast, ham and eggs, chicken-fried pork chops and cream gravy, creamed corn (from scratch using heavy cream) and several other things. The skillet is amazing. It cooks evenly all over (not just where the "heating" element is), and when you turn it to "keep warm," that's exactly what it does. Totally fabulous.
It cleans up like a dream. Once it cools down, I put some soapy water in it for a few minutes, then use a sponge to get what's left. Absolutely beautiful. And no teflon to flake off.
I only have a couple of cons with this and they are so minor, that I still give it 5 stars--the instruction booklet gives recipes, but no temps, and I find that almost everything cooks at 250 or 300. Also, the instructions for seasoning it, are flat out wrong. Thank goodness I checked the reviews and used bacon for the job. Otherwise this is the perfect skillet!
