When I began in the HVAC field back in the late '70s, this was my text. Since then the Smith editions have remained foundation elements for generations of new technicians. There are other books that go into more detail about the nature of poly-phase power or the science of power, but none that can take a new student through the process of learning HVAC controls as painlessly as Smith's work. It is not meant to be a DYI book for homeowners, nor should it be the only book on a tech's bookshelf. Now that I teach the subject, I find it to be a valuable asset for my classes.

Most of the information is accurate for the course but I do think that some of the drawings could have been a little more detailed.Overall I really would recommend this book for all beginners as well as new technicians.

Aside from all the grammatical errors in this book, it was fine. I also like that it was a rental and I'll be able to return it without having paid an astronomical price for it.
