Product Description

Merging two classic Muffs from the past, the Bass Big Muff from electro-harmonix gives you the unmistakeable grit and grind conjured from both the army green Sovtek Big Muff Pi and the NYC-built Big Muff Pi. And since it's for bass, electro-harmonix gave this bad boy a healthy dose of low-end love, making sure you'll rattle the rafters. The Bass Big Muff gives you a direct out to feed a separate amp or effects rig, and the Dry/Bass Boost switch lets you dial in just the right amount of bottom. Bassists, it's time to give the guitarists back their guitar-specific fuzz pedal and take your sound to new lows with the Bass Big Muff!

I've been playing bass for a few years now, and the majority of that time was spent trying to find a bass fuzz/distortion that worked best for me. I've tried everything, Woolly Mammoth, Boss ODB3, Turbo Rat, Blowtorch, I even bought a Line 6 Pod XT Live to try and model the perfect distortion. None of them would cut it. THIS pedal is the ultimate. It's got great bottom end, and plenty of fuzz. My personal favorite setting is with the toggle on Dry, and the tone and sustain knobs all the way up! This allows the majority of your signal to pass through undisturbed while giving you great fuzz on the top. It's the closest thing you will ever find to bi-amping one clean and one dirty signal. Fans of Muse, The Faint, The Mars Volta..... Buy this Pedal

Everybody else has said why this is a great bass fuzz, and I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said already, but some people wonder about how it sounds on the guitar. It sounds more or less like your basic Muff tone on your guitar amp, but running it through your bass rig is another story. Fans of Stoner Metal who want a good Electric Wizard tone should give this a shot. This thing is killer for guitarists with a bass rig, even my surf guitar can pull off a respectable Weedeater sound.

I play guitar and bass and this pedal sounds great with both, this is the best you can get at this price.

This thing is absolutely incredible! The tone you can get with it is pretty much guaranteed to be amazing, no matter how you have your dials set.

The sustain knob cranked up is pretty much guaranteed to give you really intense distortion that makes any bass guitar sound gnarly.
I like to use the "dry" setting because it mixes my clean bass signal with the distorted one, which adds a little bit of definition. This is important when you're playing with a distorted tone, because often distortion can turn fast bass-playing into a muddy mess.

My only complaint would be that the "dry" setting only allows you to control the volume of the distorted signal - the clean signal runs through at its original volume, unmodified. So if you're going to switch between this pedal on dry and a clean setup, you'll need either a limiter or a clean boost pedal to make up for the volume change when the pedal is off.

I bought this baby about four years ago and really grew to love it.

At first I felt it had one setting I liked, and two more I couldn't stand. The mixed setting was, and is, my favorite. It's got your bass in all of its glory along with some massive, backing distortion. I do, however think a blend knob would be better than the switching system because all three settings change your overall level of sound so much that you have to readjust your EQ and tone to get to a working sound again.

Honestly, while this pedal is actually my third in a line of drive, overdrive/distortion, fuzz pedals, I still love using it on its own. The voice is fairly distinct, but that is also why I sought additional pedals. It is great as an in-your-face fuzz, or stacked under other drive pedals to really go full-bore distorted! I keep all three knobs turned almost entirely to the right...no need to change that, ever!

Definitely a large asset in my pedal board. Sounds so amazing in front of a wah or envelope filter, and overall is a great sound! It is a great pedal to have for your pallet of you have budget and room!

I've owned a few guitar big muffs in my day. I have the American NYC version of the PI the Russian PI and I've owned a few odd ones here and there.

I love electro H and what they do... That is why I must say that this product, while sounds great, doesn't seem too sturdy. The metal or pot steel is cheap and chinsy feeling. You can tell they really cut corners on this product.

Sound wise, it is great. you can do a mixture of straight up distortion or mix with your dry signal, which is awesome.

I've had mine for two and half years and it continues to never let me down. Compared to the Boss ODB-3 effect pedal, the Big Muff Pi lacks in diversity, but makes up for it in sheer tone and punch. It lacks the high end screech of the ODB-3, but perfectly keeps the low end of the bass intact with no issue. It allows you to create a mid-range tone that is fuzzy enough to cut through shredding distorted guitars while keeping the bottom end at the surface. This is a must have pedal for any bass player.

After trying several bass distortion pedals, I have finally found the best one for me. The range of sounds, ease of use, and overall quality are unmatched. Look no further.

This is great pedal for the money. There are lots of others that offer wider range of effects, but you also pay a lot more. This is a great distortion pedal with enough tone shaping that you should be able to find a couple of killer crunches.
