The original 1969Muff Fuzz had just a touch of overdrive and sounded like a vintage amp with a slightly torn speaker. Electro-Harmonix paired two of these together in one box to create the Nano Double Muff. Use just one Muff for a hint of milky distortion, or cascade the second Muff for over-the-top overdrive that turns the milk into cream. In single mode, the amount of overdrive will lessen as you decrease the volume on your guitar. You can compensate for this by increasing the volume of the single Muff. In Double Mode, the Muff knobs will interact with each other so you can tweak your sound for the perfect amount of distortion every time. The Electro-Harmonix Nano Double Muff is true bypass, and operates on a 9V battery (included) or optional EHX 9.6V AC/DC adapter.
Top customer reviews
The single mode is awesome because the second control knob is used as an output volume control, making it easy to set your clean and distorted volumes. Having the two distortion modes gives you the sensitivity to dial in exactly how much overdrive you want, from just a hint of boost to burn-this-mother-down fuzz.
Sturdy case and components. Good tactile feel on both knobs and both switches. Small package. Takes 9v battery. I've probably put 6-10 hours on one 9v so far. With my equipment and unshielded cables, this is not a noisey pedal.
Bassists: try this pedal for Breed - NIrvana and Hysteria - Muse.
Guitarists: simplify your needs in boosts and overdrives.
I think you'll be happy you got it.
BUT, I want the classic E-H grit, so I have it in position 1, which attenuates most of what I don't want to hear after passing through the rest of The Labyrinth [pitch-shifter/analog echo/phase shifter/comp-lim/QTron/digital delay/digital reverb].
NOTE: moving the switch to the right engages a SECOND Big Muff circuit---EDGY, man, and very much added gain.
SO, if E-H wants to take the Double MUFF to the next level, I suggest better shielding. For the price I paid, this is a 4-star pedal and a real value.
