Let me begin by saying that I am a retired audio engineer/producer and video editor/shooter. I also grew up in the 50's and 60's with my $14.99 record players that played speeds from 16 to 78 rpm and later in the 80's and 90's enjoyed sophisticated studio systems in my home. Now, being retired, I want something that has basic fidelity, reliability and flexibility in one self-contained package. I bought the Electrohome Signature about a year ago expecting reminiscence of my $14.99 1964 player but with more features such as the CD player and radio. Not the case - I was pleasantly surprised. This unit has 4 speakers. Two per channel (left/right). The CD plays crisp and clean. The AM radio is about as good as AM radio is going to get considering its limited broadcasting frequency response. FM plays as bright and clean as the CD. Both radio bands are quite sensitive and I pick up about 20 AM and at least 30 FM stations, being about 40 miles outside of Dallas. The volume is more than adequate, although as with many consumer level electronics, distortion creeps in when you really crank it up. Clean volume is there though, should you need to crank up the volume knob for quieter sound sources such as a classical record, CD or distant radio station.

The turntable, as mentioned by others, is NOT going to have the same performance level as a $400 Teac turntable, so let's talk reality. I play mostly 78s from 1900 through 1955 (10" and 12"), some 45s from the 60's and 70's and once in a while a 33rpm album from the 50's, 60's or 70's. I have had NO SKIPPING at all since I bought the unit. Although I would, at times like a little more low end out of the speakers (bass) when I play records.. The radio and CD player are noticeably better, particularly FM Stereo.

Let me first say that the pictures on Amazon do not do this player justice. It is an absolutely lovely piece. This player caught my eye because it is styled differently than most of the "retro" players that are out there. It looks like a vintage piece...not like some of those cheesy all in one record players that you typically see. The player has a wonderful warm sound and is very similar to the Bose systems. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this player to anyone who was looking to dust off some old LPs for a spin or begin investing in 180 gram vinyl.

The 5 stars is an enthusiastic "So Far, So Good!" reflecting mainly my joy at the music festival I've been having since this stereo arrived almost 3 weeks ago. As of now I really am loving it. Hope-hope it holds up and lasts me at least as long as the other inexpensive one I bought from Walmart 12 years ago (which died on December 26, 2012, swallowing my much-played "Soul Christmas" CD).
To help other potential customers sort things out, here's my profile:
--In the Baby Boomer cohort I'm Class of '46, now living on low Social Security. So this was a splurge for me and I needed to be really careful.
--Am almost totally non-digital: no cellphone,no printer for computer, NO I-POD-- so can't comment on this stereo's apparent ability to record LPs/CDs onto such devices.
--My standards about "sound quality" are probably low compared to those of true aficionados. Am going a little deaf anyway. Over the years have owned some high-quality systems with really good components, but can't afford that now and don't really need it.
WHAT I WANTED: something trustworthy to play LPs (primarily)with the CDs as a bonus (already have a Walkman).
WHY I BOUGHT THIS ONE AND NOT ANOTHER OF THE MANY: For days I read many reviews of inexpensive record player/CD players, on Amazon and elsewhere, before choosing this one. None of the reviews inspired total confidence. All reviews of all cheap models made complaints. (Including TEAC, the brand that died in December, which was plastic-y junky and had several irritating traits I put up with for 12 years, but wasn't eager to repeat.) I ordered this one because it seemed to have the fewest bad reviews and the best overall reviews OF PERFORMANCE for a stereo of this type and cost.

This review will be divided into two portions. As I see it the reasons that someone would buy this player can be divided into two main categories. Looks and performance. I will first review it's build quality and aesthetics of the unit and then the performance.

AESTHETICS
I love the way this system looks. It was one of the reasons that I decided to purchase it. After all, this is a piece of furniture and aesthetics are important to me as a consumer. It has a very nice, sturdy feel to it. The wood is very nice and has feels very premium in quality. Each of the knobs and dials gives good resistance and the system as a whole is a joy to operate. It just makes you feel classy using it.

Every person that has come to my house has commented in one way or another about how good the player looks. The pictures don't really do it justice. However it is more than just a piece of furniture, it was built and advertised to perform and it falls short in that respect.

PERFORMANCE
The speaker quality is okay for personal listening. The sound is clear and, for the price, it has a rich range. However as you turn up the volume the quality diminishes pretty quickly. The bass vibrates horribly and the mid to high range gets washed out completely. To be fair, this won't really be a problem unless you are trying to throw a large party and need a lot of power and that's not really what it is meant for.

The main problem is the record player. Most newer vinyl records require a little bit more pressure from the needle to play correctly. Newer vinyl records are a little bit thinner and the grooves aren't quite as deep so, without that increased pressure the needle doesn't stay in the grooves. It will slide over them and skip, just like a scratched CD.
