About the Author

Gary Schneider is a Professor of Accounting at California State University Monterey Bay. He previously held teaching appointments at Quinnipiac University, the University of San Diego, the University of Tennessee, and Xavier University. The author of more than 50 books and 100 research papers, Dr. Schneider has written extensively on accounting and information systems topics with his work appearing in such journals as Accounting Horizons, Interfaces, the IS Audit & Control Journal, and the Journal of Information Systems. His books have been translated into Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, and Spanish. A CPA who practiced public accounting in Ohio for 14 years before undertaking his academic career, Dr. Schneider holds a Ph.D. in accounting information systems from the University of Tennessee, an MBA from Xavier University, and a BA in economics from the University of Cincinnati.

Gary Schneider is a Professor of Accounting in the College of Business at California State University Monterey Bay. His prior academic appointments include the University of Cincinnati, Quinnipiac University, the University of Tennessee, Xavier University, and the University of San Diego. He has taught accounting systems, auditing, management accounting, electronic commerce, database design, managerial decision making, supply chain management, cost accounting, and a number of other business courses. At Quinnipiac University, he served as Chair of the Accounting Department; at the University of San Diego, he served as academic director of the school’s graduate programs in electronic commerce and information systems. He has won several teaching awards, including the University of San Diego Graduate Business Students Association’s Professor of the Year award in 2001.

Gary has written nine books and more than 100 research papers on a variety of accounting, information systems, and management topics. His books have been published in more than 60 editions and versions, including Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, and Spanish translations. Gary’s research has been funded by the Irvine Foundation and the U.S. Office of Naval Research. His work has appeared in a number of journals, including Accounting Horizons, the Journal of Information Systems, Interfaces, the Information Systems Audit & Control Journal and Issues in Accounting Education. He has served as editor of the Accounting Systems and Technology Reporter and the Business Studies Journal, as associate editor of the Journal of Global Information Management, as accounting editor of Advances in Accounting, Economics and Finance, and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of Electronic Commerce in Organizations, the Journal of Database Management, and the Information Systems Audit & Control Journal.

Gary has lectured at universities and businesses throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has provided consulting and training services to a number of major clients, including Gartner, Gateway, Honeywell, the National Science Foundation, Qualcomm, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 1999, he was named a Fellow of the Gartner Institute. In 2002, the University of San Diego awarded him the Clarence Steber Professorship. In 2008, Quinnipiac University named him the William S. Perlroth Professor of Accounting and he won the University’s Outstanding Faculty Scholar award in 2012. He was named a Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2013 by the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara. Gary is a licensed CPA in Ohio, where he practiced public accounting for 14 years.

Gary holds a Ph.D. in accounting information systems from the University of Tennessee, an MBA in accounting from Xavier University, and a BA in economics from the University of Cincinnati.
