Not the original Simon game play.

Although this is an entertaining memory toy, it is solo only play, and not the original Simon's option of single or group play, and it doesn't repeat an increasing number of tones that you must reproduce in sequence. It produces four random notes that one must repeat, and if successful, the player is given another four notes slightly faster. If one is not looking for the original Simon, it makes a good diversion and mental exercise. I got frustrated with it before realizing the difference. For those wanting the original experience, Amazon has one that is described as original play, and I have ordered that. This one I will give to someone else.

I love this game, childhood favorite! However, it is half the size(or maybe felt that way because I’m a lot bigger from when I first had one) plus it is poorly put together. What do you expect these days am I right? On a positive note, if you are a techie dude and can figure out things all you have to do is crack it open and solder that bad boy up if you happen to have a soldering iron. If not get off your keister and learn something today. After that you can get back to being a kid today and build some muscle memory with some real gaming. None of this ridiculousness we have these days. O and go outside ;)

I loved this thing in the late 70s/80s! Had an inspiration to search for one, and am very pleased I found it.
I ordered one for 3 house-bound children during quarantine, and it was quite the hit. So I ordered one for myself.
I refused to order anything computer-related for the kids. Simon was tecky for it's time, but not now.
So it fit the bill. Yay!

This version of Simon is similar to the original, which I had as a child. Sadly, after years of regular use, it finally stopped working. The new model is a bit smaller and much thinner, but is a good size to use and is also reasonably portable. It only has one game and no levels. The old one had a choice of levels and had an individual and a competitive game. This version just lets you continue with the sequence as long as you can. This is fine for what I wanted- I bought it to keep my brain active. It would have been nice to have the choice of levels, though- I used to enjoy completing a sequence, but now you never complete, it just ends when you make a mistake, so it's based on failure rather than success. I would also have enjoyed the competitive game, as I used to play this on my own, as well as with my family - when a mistake was made, that colour was out and you could continue with the others until one colour was left. It's worth the price I paid, but, as it's been simplified, it's not worth the RRP. It's supposed to tell you your longest sequence, but it just repeats it so rapidly you can't count how many you got. The green light is supposed to give you your score, but it seems to flash a random number of times. The other problem with mine is that, if I have the sound on ( which I don't usually, so I can play it when my husband is in the room without disturbing him), the blue sound makes a strange vibrating noise, which is annoying. Still a very good game, but it has gone backwards from the '70's, rather than having improved with modern technology.

This although simple in regards play this instantly took me right back to being a kid in the late 70s early 80s. This is obviously not as well built like the ones back then and like everything else nowadays feels cheap but it not needing the expensive square type battery’s found in a few products today like smoke alarms like the original game took this only needs 3 AAA that last for ages. It’s very light compared to the MB models this does have its advantages as if I remember correctly the original was very heavy and its much slimmer. Having said that the game itself is the same as it was in my younger years and it’s good to see nostalgic older games coming back for us older kids and to show my children & granddaughter how simple our games were back then and happy we were to have had them and although there bored within 1hr I’ll never tire of it. I’m worryingly bad playing at the moment and hope I improve my score & hopefully my memory improves soon or I’ll start thinking ive the onset of early dementia. It’s expensive for what it is but I suppose that’s due to this item being for nostalgia than for the want of many. It works as it should and I’m pleased with it on arrival. It has battery’s already installed so it’s ready to play and although I haven’t looked within i imagine there not the long lasting expensive bunny kind but having said that the led lights won’t take too much power and should last a while.

If it was working I would also agree with other reviews that it is smaller, lighter, feels cheaper and sounds tinnier than the original Simon that was so excellent in the early 80's.

I purchased this toy for my boyfriend as a surprise. Many times In the past he had mentioned this particular “Simon Says” toy, and how he would play it for hours as a young kid. It arrived in less then 48 hours. It is the same size as the original Simon says and not the mini version that I have also seen around. He’s not quite as good as he used to be ;)

It lights up and plays a sound and the object of the game is to remember the light / sound order. It get’s harder and harder each round as Simon adds another colour / sound to remember. It takes 3x AA batteries, and comes with a set already installed. You can adjust the volume of the sound or turn it off completely. It’s very light weight and very portable.

Makes a great present and is perfect for any occasions. Family game night, road trips, camping ect.
