They draw current, even when not in use. (~17 microamps)

You get what you pay for. Everytime I grab these the batteries are dead. Why? They draw current, even when not in use. I measure ~75 microamps when on, and ~17 microamps when off. That's enough to drain the battery just sitting idle after a few months. These should come with a battery -factory-, not just a spare.

On the plus side, they are as cheap as a ruler, and measure much better than a ruler. Take the battery out after every use if you don't want to replace it next time.

Read the instructions and clean the bar before use

First of all, the price was low and therefore, my expectations were low. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy. I already had a dial caliper as a standard against which I could measure errors in tolerance. However, When I set the digital caliper to the 0.750 inch and measured it with the dial caliper, the dial caliper verified the measurement to the same decimal position.

Having said, that, the out of the box performance initially gave me a scare because every time I moved the digital reading head along the bar it gave me a different reading. After reading the instructions, I discovered that the bar had to be cleaned before using it. After cleaning the bar as instructed, the caliper gave me consistent reading at least five times in a row as I opened and closed the caliper to at least 3" and closed it to get a 0 reading. I am glad that I did not throw the instructions out before reading it like I would usually do.

Severely disappointed with quality

The fit and finish of the calipers I received was quite terrible. I know this is a budget offering, but the previous pair of calipers that I have owned were cheaper and had none of the issues I have found with this pair.

-The slide is so gritty that it has made the thumb slide unusable simply because the action is gets stuck.
-I often find that when the jaws are opened and closed the measurement reads a value close to 5 mm instead of 0.00 mm. I can't seem to determine how this happens as it does not seem to be tied to how quickly or how far the jaws have been opened.
-There are some major scuffs and scratches on the slide, the display and the jaws.
-The Inner jaws do lot line up on the pair I received.
-The outer jaws have substantial play.

I could have just received a poor example but I am heavily disappointed and will be returning this and trying out a different pair.

I wanted an extra caliper for my shop but this one disappoints. It is sloppy in its fit, feels rough in its action, and never returns to zero after opening. Jaws are pretty square but the inside jaws close before the outside ones, and overlap when the outside jaws are fully closed. My estimate of its accuracy is ±1 mm. Came with a spare battery but the one that it came with was dead.

This is a great caliper for any price and $11 makes it even better. If someone told me it cost $200, I could believe it. When I first handled it the metal surfaces were covered with a very fine gray dust that was probably left over from milling the steel. I dusted it off with a tissue and it was fine. I didn’t use oil since I feared it might affect the sensor. It is as rigid as something of this scale could be. It did not twist out of alignment. It claims a resolution of 0.0005 inches and has that. It claims an accuracy of +/- 0.001. To the best of my ability to test it, it is better than that. I actually measured settings on a 1” micrometer. At 1” the caliper measured 1.000(0)”. Sometimes it might flicker to 0.9995” but mostly it was solid at 1.0000”. Fractions of an inch yielded similar results. If I “zeroed” it then slid it out to 6” and back it returned to 0.0000.

The machining is clean and precise. It looks like a quality tool. It turns on automatically when adjusted and remembers its zero reference and scale, inches or metric. I did not yet test the auto OFF but assume it works. The battery in the caliper appears good. It does have an additional battery. The case was better than I expected. It is solid plastic of respectable quality and has only a thin sponge padding under the caliper which I prefer to a thick one.

It probably would not standup to being used as a hammer and if you throw it in a tool box full of tools it might break the plastic “computer” housing or LCD but I would not try either with a precision instrument. I am very pleased I could buy a caliper as good as this for $11.

High Quality for a very Fair Price

I bought this caliper more out of impulse than need. Someone in my work had bought one for the company, and I had noticed it on the work bench. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use and the accuracy of the device.

After doing a bit of searching online, I found where my coworker had bought it from. Here! I had expected something like this to cost double or triple of what I actually paid for it. Shipped to my house, it was $11. It comes in a plastic case with an extra battery and instructions.

I can't begin to say how useful this device is after buying it. It measures three dimensions: Inner diameter, outer diameter, and depth. I had a set of car tires I was trying to sell and this caliper aided me in accurately measuring tread depth. I was able to accurately list the % tire remaining, which helped sell the tires. An $11 tool got me $200 sale in tires.

They do sell this same caliper at Harbor Freight, and I've seen it on sale for $9.99, but with tax and driving, its cheaper to buy it here.

No issues really. The slide was a bit stiff, but a drop of oil solved that issue. Excellent quality and an exceptional price. Don't hesitate to buy this.
