This is Hocking’s final book in her Watersong series (starting with Wake, 2012), and she doesn’t disappoint. Gemma; her sister, Harper; and their friends are continuing to try to translate the scroll’s message, certain that it holds the key to breaking the curse that keeps Gemma a siren. Simultaneously, übersiren Penn forces Harper’s boyfriend, Daniel, to make an impossible choice—either become her lover and ultimately the fourth siren or watch her kill both Gemma and Harper. Sweet romance juxtaposed against steamy siren lust and violence—all interwoven with a contemporary take on old myths—makes for a fast page-turner of a conclusion to this popular paranormal series. Grades 6-9. --Frances Bradburn

All the while they are trying to grow up and figure out not only their place in life but also their relationships, they are trying to stay alive and not get killed by Penn or LIv and at the same time figure out a way to break the curse. The one I really feel for is Daniel. Poor guy. He is so kindhearted and so loves Harper he is willing to give up his life for her and Gemma. Gemma is his best friend and he is so protective of her.
As the battles ensue, Gemma becomes stronger as a person and sees with the help of Alex that love is a strong emotion and can help you accomplish the impossible.
A book that has adventure, intrigue, fun and love. One that will have you wanting more and leaving you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Such a great book and series. A must read series. .
However I loved that Marcy is more prominent in this book because of all the characters she has the most unique personality. The entire plot with Daniel and Penn was sickly fascinating and I was annoyed by how much I enjoyed it. That said I loved its resolution as well. Many readers have complained about Harper but I really like her. I think she is solid and has always had to take on more than she should have to. Gemma was a fine character too except she was just not believable as a sixteen year old. She sounded more mature and was in situations that a sixteen year old would likely not have been in even if you account for the whole supernatural siren curse aspect.
Again the book ends fairly predictably but I still enjoy reading it and I enjoyed seeing the story come to its conclusion. The themes in the book were fun and I loved everything about the Sirens. I was glad Hocking's version didn't pretty the creatures up and let their violent aspects be brought to the forefront.
I thought that Elegy was very good, there was some action and Liv with her evil irrational behavior made the book even more interesting and Gemma finally didn't let Penn or the other sirens just walk all over her. I think that Elegy is the best one in the series.
I have become a huge fan of this author and have her on My Favorite Authors list. I'm looking forward to her next novel! Highly recommend this series!!!
