The world has changed. Now, each group of Elementals is fighting to find their place and all have their own secret plans to gain power. Valerie is caught up in between, not sure which side she should join. But one thing is clear, she needs to set aside all differences and take the help of her comrades to stop a much greater evil.
There's a lot going on in these pages, and it's a lovely play of shades of gray with only one very dark spot of evil. Layers of intrigue build up around every bend, making it difficult to decipher what plans for power lay where. It's the way Valerie and her group fight past all of this to pull together and fight off the one thing that can destroy them all, which makes this an interesting and grabbing read. The pace stays high the whole way through with tons of action and surprises.
The characters, at least many of them, have quite a bit of depth and are more than they seem to be. They made this a very interesting read. Valerie on the other hand, was hard to grasp at times. While she usually came across as a wonderful heroine to root for, sometimes her decisions and the way she handled others was simply frustrating and made her hard to like. The constant tide changes in romance interests wasn't really my thing, but it didn't jerk out of the plot either.
All in all, this is an entertaining read which promises to keep the reader pinned to the pages the whole way through.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed it enough to want to leave my honest thoughts.
This book picked up right where the last one left off. It was another great book by Elle Middaugh. I fell in love with this series because it was so different from what I have read. There aren't really many books that have elemental inspiration within them.
Valerie ... She is still trying to figure out which group she should join or even if she shouldn't join any. She was away after the big fight at the end of book 1 and her entire world has changed. Humans now know about elementals and Val is trying to keep the safe from the Elitists.
Cade ... I am team Cade all the way! I think he can be infuriating and frustrating with the way he treats Val sometimes. And all because of his family and their Traditionalist views. However, I think Cade opened up in this book a lot which I am excited to see where this will go with them.
Holden ... I think Holden only likes Valerie for personal and political reasons. He is a part of the Modernist group. Throughout the entire book, you don't get much interaction between Holden and Val since Holden is busy helping his dad run the Modernist group.
Overall, this was a great book and I look forward to the next book in the Elemental Series.
The characters are well-developed and fun to follow. I could feel their emotions really well. I could feel myself being pulled in to the story and feeling like I was there among the action..
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy this type of story. The book was written very well.
In this one we follow Val and the havoc the discovery of elementals has done to the world. Factions of multiple kinds are popping up and wanting to represent the elementals, some want to return to the darkness, some want to work with humans, and some want to take over the world (yeah, we knew this one from book one, but it's even more apparent in this one). Not only does Val need to pick a side, she needs to decide where her heart lies. People are out to get the elementals, and Val is also targetted.
The book was good and I like the story of the elementals, but like I said, it fell a little flat for me after the first book. There is another one coming out though, so that could be the reason. 3.5 stars.
