I recently decided that I was going to throw away my drip coffee maker because I would make too much coffee wasting both water and coffee grounds. I wanted to go more "manual" so I bought a burr grinder, a pour over cone and this water kettle. I have literally never tasted better coffee in my life!
What I love about this kettle is its efficiency and its size. It fits on your counter perfectly and rotates 360º on the heating apparatus. The goose neck spout is perfect for getting all the missed coffee grounds that stick to the side of the filter. It pours smooth with a constant stream and depending on how much water you put in, it heats up fast! For a full 1.0L you're looking at about 6.5-7 minutes for boiling. If you put in just enough for a cup or two of coffee then it will be boiling in about 3 minutes. The handle stays cool to the touch but the kettle itself is pretty hot so watch out not to touch it. The lid has 3 holes in it for steam release and it comes off fairly easy without too much force.
Not only has this device made me great coffee, but it is fantastic for hot water for any purpose. It is much faster than the stovetop and just a simple "flick of the switch" gets you a pot of hot water in no time.
Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed!
First of all, it pours beautifully. I have tremendous control as to how I wet the coffee and maintain water levels. If you like pour overs. This kettle does it well.
Nice design, it looks good on the counter.
I would not say it heats up super fast, but fast enough.
The only thing that keeps me from giving this 5 stars is that is seems a bit flimsy on the base. The kettles I've used in the past really feel solid on the base. This one does not. Other than that it seems like a good value.
I was looking for an alternative to the higher priced gooseneck kettle brands (i.e. Bonavita), and this more or less meets my needs: it looks good, boils quickly, has a small footprint, and a 1L capacity. The cord length is adjustable, with the excess wrapped around the bottom of the base, which is nice.
The only downside is that the kettle wobbles on its base. It wobbles quite a bit when it's empty, and less when it's full. It's as though the kettle itself isn't designed quite right to be fully seated on the base. (FYI: I actually ordered a second kettle to see if it would have a similar issue, and it did.) The kettle still functions beautifully, but if a wobble will bother you, go for a more expensive version.
Overall, happy with my purchase.
I had been looking for a long necked kettle to make pour-over coffee and came across the Elementi. Not only is it a very useful, easy, safe (auto-shut off) kettle, the staff went out of their way to communicate with me about the purchase - sending me an email about how to set it up (simple) and a follow-up to make sure we loved it (we do).
Seriously glad to free up a burner now that we don't have a stove-top kettle, happy to not hear the annoying whistle of that kettle, or wait an interminably long time for the water to boil, and love that I don't have to worry about the pot boiling dry.
I'm ordering more for my friends and family as holiday gifts, You should too. So good.
My only quibble--and I should have checked for this before I purchased--is that there are no water-level indicator marks inside or outside (except for the max fill line). My old kettle had them, and I didn't realize till now how much I appreciated them. This is what one of my friends would refer to as a Princess Problem, but it does annoy me a little to have to pre-measure or guess based on what the water looks like inside the kettle. Making coffee before you've had coffee is enough of a challenge, so the fewer obstacles the better.
But I would recommend, especially now that the price has dropped about six bucks from when I purchased a few months ago.
