The HIDDEN assumptions, we don't even consider until we start thinking differently, with a process! I have even been in lots of process meetings where we use a lot of the same logic exercises used here too, in strange business situations we'd hope to never come across in real life, but find ways to solve, and try NOT to assume anything that's not written down. It's all just fun bits of the cognitive process in the beginning.
I just wish I had read it earlier. Now I'm older and wiser, but still assume things too often when starting a new project. This's another great help.
Written by a professor from an analytical background, it presents simple and effective ways to enhance critical, creative, analytical thinking and improve the whole process of cognitive learning. The book excels by showing how our brains and thinking skills can become more refined through a series of brief but significant approaches. This includes brainstorming with analogies, making mistakes, accepting that the smartest solutions are often also the simples ones, then committing to grow, improve, learn, and ultimately change your thinking.
This book has an approach that gives free permission to "thinking outside the box" since this is often where truth and insight are to be found. How to find the truth? What is the truth? The book gives specific guidance to these questions presenting the socratic questioning for example, thinking in analogies, learning critical writing and reading, learning how to extract and summarize information effectively etc.
All and all, there are lots of insightful tips, very applicable to real life situations - not just a collection of distant, abstract rambling on the benefits of critical thinking without any guidance how to actually learn it. This book should be read by everyone who is involved in intellectual work throughout his life. Great thanks for the author.
