Athra squinted and noticed a burning light in the distance. It was beingchased by trail of thick smoke and heading for earth at a startling speed. Helet go of Kyla and leaned against the turret wall. "I don't know."
She came up beside him, her face bunched with confusion. Whatever it waslooked to be heading for a crash landing between the northern forest and thefoot of the alps. The impact was inevitable and Athra instinctively bracedhimself.
They both watched with open mouths as it plummeted. Moments later aburst of light lit the sky and a distant boom resounded. Athra shaded his eyesas he watched a mammoth cloud of ash and smoke billow from the landing point. Alow vibration rumbled towards them, followed by a shock wave that blew themfrom their feet.
Athra covered Kyla with his body as the air whipped past them, and thenit was over. Rising from the ground, he helped Kyla up and checked if theguards were okay. They stood on shaky feet, looking petrified.
"What was that?" Kyla's brown eyes were wide with curiosity.
"I'm not sure, but I'm going to find out."
