Top Customer Reviews
* Saves batteries
* Supports 3V, 5V and 6V depending on which way you connect it
* Attaches your circuits to the wall, which can be annoying
* The connection can be flaky at times
* If you plug it in in 6V mode to a 3V circuit, you could burn stuff out
Overall if you're a teacher or a hard-core Snap Circuits fan, this is worthwhile. If you're an occasional user of your kit, probably not worth it since most circuits don't draw much power.
TIP: For circuits which use two battery packs (6V), replace one of the battery packs with this unit on the 6V side, and the other battery pack with a "3" connector.
Each snap is a different V. The 2 left snaps are 3V, the 2 right are 6V and the top middle 5V. If you use the wrong v you can blow your parts. My son and I didn't know you had to check which pattern uses which V and he blew his lights and speaker.
The purpose of this product is to use it as replacement for battery holders of any Elenco snap circuit kit.
As an enthusiastic Elenco snap circuit user I own many kits and know come of them some with 3 Volts holder some with 4.5 Volts.
There are bigger kits which come with two 3 Volts holder. Hence 6 Volt replacement is required.
In theory this battery eliminator can be used with any of these. Instruction (poorly written) indicates how to configure for 3 V, 6 V and 5 V configuration.
Multiple negatives on this products makes it difficult to understand which one goes with which. Few simple design changes could have made is obvious and user should not rely on reading manual again and again. Since many of 6 Volt circuit in theory can perform with 3 Volt supply you will not blame battery for underperforming circuit and keep diagnosing elsewhere. Assuming you know if circuit is under performing (Like flying saucer is not going up.).
Worst is if you make a mistake connecting a 3 Volt circuit with 5 Volt or 6 Volt configuration, you may blow up delicate components like LEDs. Since there is no obvious way of proper connectivity built in design itself. You need to keep instruction handy. This is the problem if you don't use Elenco kits frequently it's very easy to forget.
Also in all the big Elenco kits where two 3 V holders are supplied. You are required to replace one 3 Volt holder with one 3 snap wire. Fine but this extra 3 snap wire should have been supplied with this product.Read more ›
