Advanced in technology, civilized and with a population of billions, Magalan was a planet looking to the future. Then the meteor hit.
Those who survived are now trapped in a battle to survive, a struggle to decide the fate of a planet. At the center of this fight is the element 'Elex'. A precious, limited resource that arrived with the meteor, Elex can power machines, open the door to magic, or re-sculpt life into new, different forms.
But which of these choices should be the future of Magalan? Can technology, or magic save this world? Or will this new power destroy all those left alive amongst the ruins?
From swords and axes, to bows, crossbows and harpoons, Elex offers one of the widest selections of weaponry in the history of role-playing. Pick up a shotgun, power up a plasma rifle or unleash a flame thrower – there’s a weapon and combat style for every fighter out there. Be it a hammer, a rocket launcher or the power of magic, Elex balances science, fantasy and brute force to let you choose the combat style that fits your role best!
The Berserkers In Edan
Wiping the planet clean, the meteor has given the people of Magalan a chance. The world can be regrown again. Having found a way to transmute Elex into pure Mana, the Berserkers are transforming Magalan’s shattered wastes into lush, living woodland. Where Albs bring destruction, Berserkers bring life. As magic replaces technology, Magalan shall offer all its people a future.

On Oct 10, THQ got an actual pre-order count from Amazon and will be fulfilling that demand quickly they said, anyone who pre-ordered after that date will be in a second shipment that they did not specify a time frame on. Honestly, this much interest in the game is good for both BP and THQ, so the inconvenience is only a minor drawback. Rest assured, you will be getting your Collector's Edition soon.
I snagged a regular edition in the meantime and the game is definitely shaping up to be a difficult, immense, immersive RPG experience that shows its tale-tale Piranha Bites colors as a hand crafted and deeply thoughtful experience. Graphics are decent, combat mechanics are engaging, world building is top notch. I can not say anything further with only 5ish hours of play time.
This game is a monkey's paw. In that everything that seems great seems to have a giant negative caveat attached.
The game is BEAUTIFUL. Except for when it's being ugly at certain times and having massive dips in frame rate or cutscene animations that look so cheesy they make the graphics of the original Halo 1 look breathtaking.
The game gives you a jetpack and the freedom to explore in the BEGINNING of the game. And the world is MASSIVE. 4D exploration in a massive world. This is rare as most games that offer this do it in the middle or near the end of the game. The caveat to this open world exploration? Just be careful not to actually explore anywhere or you'll almost always get murked by something that's insanely overpowered for some reason. (And when it's not overpowered, it just feels that way because of these horrible combat mechanics - more on that below.) Think you can fly away out of danger? Lol no, even the beats at the tutorial section of the game can shoot projectiles at you, and just about every other enemy the game has to offer does the same.
So speaking of combat, it's horrendous. There's no positive monkey's paw with a caveat attached there; it's just plain BAD. In fact, the combat is so horrendous that all the beauty this game has to offer can't hold a candle because the majority of the game will be spent in combat, and the majority of that combat will be godawful. Projectiles, magic, melee, etc. Everything, when it comes to combat, is a HUGE disappointment that if not fixed very soon will probably be the biggest cause of this game being dead by december.
Back to the monkey's paw: there's so many characters with so many ways to interact with them; but it all feels soulless and bland. I know our guy is supposed to be an alb or however that's spelled, but us, the players aren't. So when there's just emotionless interaction after emotionless interaction, my own investment in the character, the story, and the factions fighting for survival starts to wane.
One final part of the monkey's paw: I purchased the special edition of this game. And the packaging and materials included were BEAUTIFUL. The game itself doesn't feel like it's worth more than $30 and that's if I'm being generous. Before release I was comparing it to legends like Skyrim; now it feels more worthy of being compared to No Man's Sky from my perspective. A lot of exploration but nothing interesting to show for it because the other mechanics are muddling the potential this game has. I hope, like No Man's Sky, the developers see all the mixed and negative reviews as well (most of which have the same criticisms), take them with a grain of salt, and fix what's wrong with this game, because I really do believe this game has a lot of potential.
Do I regret my purchase and my investment in this game? For the moment, yes, I do. Do I have hope that the developers can still fix what is wrong and make this a worthy game for the end of 2017? Yes, I do.
Let's with collecters edition leading into the game, idk if it's just me or it happen with other people but my collecters edition the outer box was was mildly scratch but by no means bad or noticeable unless your intentionally trying to look for it probably cause from shipping but differently looks like it was on accident
So with the collecters edition itself: I personally love i here's why, the statue is EXTREMELY detailed whoever came up with it and made it were really good like I'm impress and it's quite sturdy too and the colors and the lines and all that jazz is spot on basically match the game ideally.
The art book is amazing, it blew my socks away of how detailed it was and how beautiful it was. Everything is very detailed and will done and each page you look at can suck you in the environment and in the game and the lore. I can go on with the art book but in short it's well done and very detailed
Music: I normally don't pay intention to music to a lot of games for whatever reason but the music in Elex was really well done like A++ what I mean is the music is incredible to say the least and by far one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in all my gaming years. it catches your mode in right way and in right time and it matches the setting your character is in no matter what and it's not just one type both high beats and calming beats.
Story: it's very well done a lot more complex and complicated but yet simple, what I mean is the people who made the game clearly put a lot of passion and thought into the game and it's environment to make sure everything fits together perfectly and make it engaging for every party there's more then enough story in just the main story and the side quests and if your feeling brave enough to go exploring you can get background and even more lore/story nothing major but you'd definitely see the difference and it'll help make the story/lore more interesting and it'll definitely be worth it
Graphics: well it depends on what kind of person you are if your wanting something like fallout 4 or Wolfenstein 2 level of graphics Unfortunately elex weakest is it's graphics but don't get me wrong it's beautiful to say the least just letting you know that it doesn't have the top tier graphics of 2017, for example some cut scenes like the beginning looks like something from early 2,000 but few seconds later when you finally have control with your character the environment ( graphic wise ) was from 2012-2015 but with better colors but don't get me wrong the environment and everything is really beautiful there are quite a few to say the least where I stopped for a few minutes and look around of how beautiful the area is and they got a lot of things right with there environment and characters appearance are incredible and detailed
Exploring / combat: same with the graphics, it depends on what kind of player you are, if your used to play regularly something like fallout 3 & 4 and Skyrim then these might be extra challenging for you, the combat isn't 100% perfect but it's definitely not as bad as lot of people say it is, if your not used to it then yeah it's more difficult and elex is meant to be challenging, my advice is to practice a couple of times, no shame in dying a few times to learn the mechanics of it, it took me awhile to get used it. it's like Witcher 3 with dark souls 1 difficulty. But that aside I think the combat system is pretty good overall in my opinion
Exploring wise it's great there's A LOT of places to explore quite literally even when you thought you explore sorting area but there is more things to explore, like I've spent at least 55+ hours into my first play through finishing the story and I still missed a couple of areas in the map I could explore still explore and try out
Lastly my favorite part, the RPG eliminates: the dialogue and the choices you have is so great like there's so many options of finishing a side mission and even more for the campaign that it's crazy and there's a lot of things going into every side mission and you got to think about your actions Because it might or might not help you out and what you say matter in Elex and on top of that you have a freedom to do literally whatever you want the moment you have control of your character to explore, to be anything you want in the game with no real restrictions what you can and can't do
Elex is by far my favorite RPG game that ever Came out, Overall I enjoyed it with all it's complexity with freedom of choice and lots of exploration and great atmosphere. If I could I'll give it 12/10
