Now the things i don't like so much, some times it is very quick but some others it takes like 5 or 7 seconds to turn on or off (more responsive than unresponsive though), the think that you have to take in mind is that it uses bluetooth to connect (you can't get the best of two worlds here) since it is bluetooth there is no need of a hub like the wifi ones but that limits the range of this switch, in a clear open area i can get up to 15~20 meters range, but with a closed door it takes 2~5 meters to respond that means when i am outside in my car (street door and room door closed) and 10 meters away it is impossible to make it respond, this is more energy efficient than a wifi switch but it sacrifices range over that.
Another thing that they can improve is that the app won't recognize in a logical matter the state of the switch, i.e. the app can tell you light is on or off yes!, but if you have a scene like when i arrive at home turn the lights on, and if the lights are turned on already i would expect them to remain on, but the app just send a signal to change the current state, that means that if the light is turned on and i order to turn the light on it will turn off (logical error! T & T = F).
And one last think is that once i had the light on for like 6 hours, and it gave me a quick flick, so far just one time but if it continues i will post and update about that.
The product easily paired with the App. During the pairing process I got a phone call on my iPhone and it caused the pairing to fail. The App could not detect the Eve switch until I reset it back to factory defaults (painless 20 second process that is documented in the instructions). The switch has detachable face plate which is what we needed because I installed it next to two other switches on the wall. A nice little green light shows me which one is the Eve.
I highly recommend this for anyone looking to get into home automation.
Wasn't sure if I could fit two of these in one electrical box, but I took a chance. They fit quite snugly next to each other, but otherwise fit well. I just went to a home store and got a $1.50 double-gang wallplate since the ones included are singles.
As far as how they perform, I have an Apple TV 4th gen not 10 feet from where they're installed and save for a delay in activating, they work perfect. Not quite sure what others go on about, complaining about delays... it's not like your life depends on the light coming on the instant you tell Siri to do so...
At any rate, software works well, easy to set up and configure. I totally recommend these switches. =)
While I'm ultimately impressed with its quality there is a very severe and inconsistent delay when using it over HomeKit. All of my other accessories, some closer some further from the hub respond consistently and without any noticeable delay, however this switch can at times can take a 2 seconds to respond or even up to 30 seconds! Once it does finally respond any controls immediately after are quick suggesting that after a short period without use it goes into some idle/inactive state and has to reconnect. Any signals sent during these delays are queued so if your impatient like me and keep turning it on/off hoping it will respond it will then catch up to each and every press when it finally does reconnect. It becomes very annoying... With that one major issue aside everything else is actually superb, which is why it's hard to rate it too low. If I could I would rate it a 3.5/5 instead as it's other qualities are too good for me to be too harsh.
Pairing was a breeze and the switch blends in perfectly with, in my opinion, an attractive small green LED back light when off (not at all bright or distracting, convenient in the dark for guests). Installation was simple and straight forward and the build quality was all in all great, a step up from your typical cheap feeling metal and plastic typical light switches are made of.
A copule of things I found:
Not completely sure this is accurate, but I set my AppleTV (gen4) to never sleep and seem to get better results of control when wifi/bluetooth are turned off (going over LTE).
This switch is NOT for a three-way switch (where you control a light with two light switches), but I was able to do it. Definitely an advanced setup, but you essentially "disable" one of the existing three way switches and install the Eve light switch in the other location. You'll have to figure out which wire is which because three way switches are wired differently. If you don't know what you are doing, get an electrician.
