The title "Eli vs God" suggests a battle of epic, unreachable proportions. "You have to let me live my own life!" is the battle but the story is certainly not out of reach. Instead what we get is an authentic, personal, gripping, and delightfully familiar story of a life journey that every pastor, Christian and seeker can delight in. The delight comes because it sounds like it could be our story. The prose draws you in because it is familiar and the power of God warms you because it is ever-present from page to page. It turns out the imagined battle is actually an epic friendship. A great first book for author John Moelker.Darren RoordaCanadian Ministries DirectorChristian Reformed Church in North America
From the Author
As a pastor, I write sermons every week that present the good news that God sent His Son to save the world and to make all things new, right and beautiful again.
The fact that God called me into ministry is simply ridiculous. At the time of my call, I was going toe-to-toe with God every step of the way. And that is after I became a Christian! Before that, I was a legalistic Pharisee type who grew up in a Christian home but did not embrace the God of my parents (Like Jacob who wrestled with God).
The book's main character Eli, is based loosely or maybe even largely off my story which highlights God ridiculous Grace and great big sense of humour. Beta readers and early reviewers have been blessed by the story and I'm so happy to hear that.
- If you are a wandering sheep type, this book will speak to you and I hope and pray will encourage you in your walk with God.
- If you've experienced some uppercuts from God, I know how that feels. I've also taken plenty of jabs at God over the years.
Why not put your gloves down for a little while and read a story about God's amazing and scandalous grace. Oh, and for you romance types. I'm a hopeless romantic too, so you will enjoy a major romance plot in the story too.
I hope you are blessed by the story.
