Elinchrom’s new BXRi series heads are based on technology that robotically manufactures the main board allowing Elinchrom to create extremely dependable strobes. This design helps keep the weight and size down and, more importantly, add computer chips and memory for internal software capabilities. The new case has the thermally controlled fan located at the bottom of the housing instead of on top like the current style. This strobe features a built-in Skyport Triggering system. The Skyport Trigger gives the capability of completely control over the BXRi including power up and down and turning on/off modeling light using eight frequencies and four workgroups all from camera position without touching the strobe heads. Visual Flash Confirmation can turn off the modeling light until the flash is ready to fire. The Eye-Cell feature allows an on camera flash to trigger the unit while being able to ignore pre-flashes for proper triggering. The strobe and modeling lamps can be adjusted in 1/10 step increments to any 1/20, 1/30, … 1/90, 1 stop allowing precision adjustment. This kit contains two 500Ws heads, 2 Manfrotto light stands, 2-25” Portalite Softboxes, Skyport Trigger, head carry bag, stand carry bag and cables.
Top customer reviews
The lights are awesome and they keep color consistent and I would recommmend them to anyone looking to go to the next level in their photographic experience. 4 stars from me for this product.
I then bought the set from B&H Photo online. They sent the whole set with free shipping, so I finally got to actually try the lamps out!
I'd say 4 1/2 stars is a more accurate rating:
~The lamps are surprisingly good for the price. The soft boxes are a bit flimsy, but they seem to be holding up well enough.
~The lamps are powerful and easy to set once you figure them out. The buttons are not labeled well, so you have to get to know them.
~The lamps have a modeling lamp, which is a must for fashion and portrait photography, but it isn't really accurate compared to the actual strobe power. I recommend taking a few sample shots to get the perfect exposure.
~The fans are not too loud and they do a good job of preventing overheating.
~The wireless transmitter works very well. I haven't tested it at much distance, but I have used it with total success at around 5 feet. (I've only used them in-studio so far.) Easy to set up and very reliable.
~The lamps are fast enough for a very sharp portrait of a still model and even a fairly wiggly child.
~Excellent color value.
~The stands are not what I was expecting. (After all that trouble to get them, darn it.) Because they are Manfrotto, I was expecting them to be sturdier. They are very light weight and the mechanisms are rather cheesy. They do the job, but I prefer to use other stands that have more weight and are easier to adjust on the fly. (At least I got everything I paid for this time!)
Overall, I'm very happy with these lamps.
The Kit is just amazing. Have not had much time to test. At maximum power they are like an explosion of light turning the whole room into a white glow.
When powered down the create absolutely great light. Very soft. Easy to adjust and create nice effects.
As said in the title if you thing photoshop is cheating the these lights should probably be outlawed right away. From the few pictures last night my guess is that to create the same effects in photoshop or gimp would take me 1 hour and there it is straight out of the camera.
Everything about the image was amazing : sharpness, skin tone, light, shadows. Going forward I think I will be very good customer of Elinchrom
