I enjoyed how she made the main love interest annoying or overbearing when Joelie was upset with him, because it helped keep me irritated with him when she was but still inexplicably drawn to him as well.
I loved the ending and I am so excited to see how that character will reenter the story. I anxiously await Ms. Cain's next installment.
The layout was shoddy, and the story itself was uninteresting, and frankly not very well written. Hopefully Cain can continue to grow as an author, but this attempt was not in the ball park.
While Joelie annoyed me as a character at times, she is well crafted, as is the hero, Sender. He sounds beautiful, and if he's real I'm going to find him! In fact, all the characters De well written, no sound suspiciously like people we may or may not know.
The plot twists all over the place, so we're on a roller coaster, so hold onto your hats and remove all loose change from your pockets, because its a bumpy ride!
Everyone assumes that Joelie Baudelaire lives a charmed life. She has a generous benefactor in Warren Jardine, and a glamorous lifestyle in the exciting city of Las Vegas. Everyone is wrong.
When Warren is arrested, Joelie has the ability to escape the emotional jail he's held her captive in for two years. Her father's house should be her refuge, but it's another kind of prison altogether. All Joelie wants is a normal, peaceful life. Discovering that she is one of The World Elite, a genetically superior race, puts a whole new set of shackles on her life.
Her destiny is planned, and her future marriage is pre-arranged. While Joelie still remembers her childhood crush on the Elite, Sender Stelle, it isn't easy to accept a betrothal to a man she barely knows beyond his photograph.
Warren doesn't want to release his control over her. The World Elite would force her to fulfill her destined duty, and Sender has gone from resigned acceptance to benign co-operation with the powers that be.
Freedom is just out of reach. All Joelie must do is defy some of the most powerful people in the world, and survive.
I absolutely loved this first novel by Coey Cain! I cannot wait to read the next in the series! I don't want to give away any of this fabulous story, so I hope I don't give away any *Spoilers* so beware... Joelie is a great heroine who goes through so much to get away from one man, Warren, only to find herself trapped in an entirely new way by her father, the Elite and a contract for marriage she doesn't recall signing. Of course she is surrounded by gorgeous men, so I didn't feel too bad for her, even envied her in parts! LOL I found myself drawn in to Joelie's life from the very beginning, and really loved the world Ms. Cain created. The characters were engaging and made me care about them and keep reading. I loved the ending, cliff-hangers always keep me on the edge of my seat! Now of course I'm in suspense until Ms. Cain finishes book two. I hope you join me in encouraging her to write fast! I want to know what happens... especially with that darn sexy Diesel guy, I swear he was one of my favorites! Write Fast Ms. Cain!
