Elite is book one in the Eagle Elite series and is a NA/Romance written by Rachel Van Dyken.

The Review:
First off let me say, when I hit that last page in this book, I could look back at this read as a whole and think, "wow, that was pretty great!". But if I was to form an opinion after only the first three chapters, then the next few chapters and then some more after that, I would have said, "wth? I'm so confused and this book makes No. Sense. AT. ALL!" So my suggestion, read it in full before forming a complete opinion. Now, on to the review...

I enjoyed this read and it kept me coming back, even though I wanted to pull my hair out because I just didn't understand the things happening and it was riddled with plot holes! From the moment it starts, its a confusing mess of characters, events and secrecy that left me scratching my head. We get tidbits all along of where the story is headed, who the characters are and at about 35% into the book, I had a light bulb moment, where everything started to click. I began to understand where the story was headed, but what I didn't understand, was why would a person stay and endure that kind of torture at a place she had no allegiance to. I think there should have been something added to ensure the fortitude of the characters choice to stay other than stubbornness. I mean it was an elective college, not compulsory high school.

The overall conflict was well done but there were so many times I thought, why did that happen and why would any character stay to endure that kind of abuse.

I have a Spoiler Rant at the end of this review if you're curious what I question as sever plot holes.

“Nixon.” My voice was weak. “What are you doing?”
His lips met mine. The kiss was brief.
He sighed. “I wish I knew.”

This book was like a mash up of Mean Girls, Romeo & Juliet and The Godfather and I LOVED it! I only just heard about this series recently when Facebook was blowing up with posts about the newest release, Elude. The posts and the blurb for that book had me so intrigued and wanting to read it, but just in case I ended up loving it I figured I should wait and start at the beginning in order to avoid spoilers! I read the prequel novella, Enchant, and was interested to keep going but wasn’t really sure if the series would be up my alley. With the $5 price tag on this book, I debated a bit about whether to give it a go or not. Well let me say, this was one gamble that totally paid off because I devoured this book and I am so excited to keep reading through this series to find out what is going to happen next!

Trace Rooks is the winner of the annual lottery to win a scholarship/acceptance to Eagle Elite, the country’s most prestigious school, where many of the students go on to be world leaders and the like. Graduating from Eagle Elite basically makes you set for life, with any career open to you. Trace is excited with the opportunity that has been given to her but she is also feeling a little (ok a lot) out of her league and very far from the farmland of Wyoming which is the only world she’s ever known. That becomes really apparent on her first day when she comes face to face with The Elect: Nixon, Chase, Tex & Phoenix. Between their rules and the fact that they seemingly run the school, Trace begins to wonder just what she’s gotten herself into and what or who these guys are.

This book is awesome. I couldn't put it down I want her with Nixon so bad he loves her. Then there's Chase omg what will happen in that mess? This book had lots of twist and turns starts out with the guys being mean as hell to her and her being tortured threw everything. There is a twist that involves the mafia. I can't wait for book two I hope it doesn't take long cuz I need more.

If I had to describe Elite in one word it would be ADDICTIVE! I’m seriously hooked on Rachel Van Dyken’s yummy new BBFs (yes, plural!) and I can NOT get enough of this series. Tracey, Nixon, Chase, Monroe, Tex, and the rest of the Eagle Elite world have cast their spell on me and I know there’s no getting them off my mind. Elite was fun, sexy, suspenseful, and downright thrilling. Rachel pulled no punches when it came to the action and unexpected emotional impact of this novel. She had me riding the highs and dreading the lows of this crazy world she has created with her words. I was swept away by the complexity of the characters and drowned in the power of their emotions.

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to the characters in Elite. I mean, the boys are absolutely yummy but there is so much more to them. I loved unraveling Chase and Nixon. Chase’s determination to look after Trace, even when it went against Nixon’s wishes, had me falling hard for the caring soul under the rough wrapping. Nixon surprised me at every turn with the protective and romantic heart that hid inside the fierce, hard exterior. Now, Trace was everything I love in a heroine and then some. She is sheltered, vulnerable, and totally insecure, yet from the start she is ferocious. I absolutely loved her attitude and the way she stood up for herself with tiny acts of defiance. These small moments of strength demonstrated the potential burning inside her and I just know she is going to turn out to be a force of nature.

Everything about this storyline was perfection, surprising me at every turn and revealing just enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. The smallest of details comes full circle and the biggest moments turn out to hold more meaning than I could have ever dreamed.
