Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2-- In this sequel to Elizabeth and Larry (S. & S., 1990), the plucky older lady and sweetheart of an alligator settle in Florida between a swamp and a golf course. Enter Ed, a swamp creature and sponger who takes advantage of Elizabeth's soft heart and moves in, much to Larry's displeasure. In the end, Ed's mother turns up and takes him home. A mildly amusing book, this is no match for the first story. The good-natured satire of retirement life by the golf course seems most appropriate for adults. Although they lack the wild originality of this team's "Alistair" books (S. & S.), Bollen's comic drawings are skillfully done. One of the funniest is of Ed's mother with her frizzed hair, earrings, and saggy neck. Like the rest of the book, it is more likely to get a chuckle from parents than preschoolers. --Ann Stell, Central Islip Pub . Lib . , NY
