However, it looks great on my mom, who is slimmer, taller, and has a butt that's proportional to her body.
It's nicely lined in the main body, with the sleeves and the front of the circular yoke left sheer.
The elastic in the bell sleeves means you can push them up and keep them out of the way if you're doing work that requires free hands (craft stuff, dishes, cooking, washing your hands--anything you'd push up your sleeves for). This is nice because bell sleeves are typically super impractical if you're working with your hands.
The wrinkle-free poly is a nice choice when you're traveling or wilting. Though it's hotter than natural fibers, it won't wrinkle or get sweat marks, so still a decent choice in warm weather. The short length means you won't get too hot, and the sheer sleeves let in plenty of air around your pits.
The styling reminds me too much of the drop-waisted numbers I wore in the 80s, so I can't get totally onboard, But it's fairly well made and cute if you've got a body type that will tolerate a short shirred waist. I would not recommend it for anyone short and pair shaped.
The top panel and sleeves are sheer. This is the black sheer fabric with small white floral vines all over. It's a subtle floral that adds some femininity. The sheer fabric is more sturdy than a lot of sheers, which you would want when it's clasped behind the neck, and you want to lift up your arms sand reach things and has to hold together at the seams. It's chiffon-like in texture but smoother/more comfortable.
The body is lined with black fabric similar in texture to the outer layer. They are both polyester for easy care and minimal wrinkling.
I LOVE the black cotton lace around the shoulders and at the base. It's also at the wrist/base of sleeves. The waist has about 4 inches of cinching so you can adjust it to the look you want for your body shape. The wrist has about 3/4" of cinching so you can slide it up and it stays out of the way when you need it to.
I prefer to wear tights/leggings underneath, as the skirt is pretty short, but to each her own.
Because it’s an elastic waist there is no zipper, just a tiny clasp at the top (in the back). The first time I wore the dress I forgot to clasp it. No one noticed (not even me) (my hair may have concealed it).
I’m usually Small or Medium in dresses, the Medium for this dress works really well for me. The way the design is, however, I’m thinking I could probably pull off Small or Large as well!
