I bought this with the intention of getting a good cardio workout versus joining a gym. I have winter rye so I mowed with this from July through March, every week in S.E. Texas.
The bad first;
1. This thing is built cheap. The grass deflector has one small tip that is broken, meaning it forces the grass straight down, missing the grass catcher. Fixed with a screw to permanently mount in the full up position.
2. The wheels have a clutch feature so you can roll it backwards while it freewheels from your last forward movement. However, the two metal clutch pieces wear into the cheap plastic gear on the inside of the wheel. The mower will gradually grind louder and the blades will not move fast enough to cut the grass. Fixed with a screw in each wheel hole where the metal piece goes (discard metal piece). This screw MUST be slightly longer than the metal pieces to be discarded, an exact size from your local hardware store. Some disassembly required, with the help of snap ring pliers. You lose the freewheel option, but it has not broken since. It now blows through pine cones, sweet gum balls, small sticks, etc and does half decent at picking up White Oak and Tallow leaves.

The good:
1. It will cause you to lose weight and gives a great workout.
2. No gas.
3. Fixed one nick on a blade with a file.
4. No cloud of dust while mowing
5. Don't have to rinse with the hose outside before going in to take a shower.
6. No muddy snot or dustmask required.
7. Grass catcher decent.
8. Lawn looks way better.
9. Wet grass cutting ok.
10.Super low maintenance.

I have a mutt of a lawn, basically mowing whatever comes up. In the fall, I planted winter rye and it grew all winter long.

I'm not mechanically inclined, but had this unpacked and mowing in under 5 minutes, only looking at the instruction sheet once to find out which direction the handle pins should be inserted. No tools, extremely user friendly... excellent since I was sooo excited to get this going! I was impressed by the ease of pushing and cutting performance of our bumpy, weedy yard when cutting at a mid-low height. In areas that were very thickly overgrown, where I could not cut through even with a little running start, I found it very easy to turn the height up and trim shorter on the second pass. It was amazing how easily it pushed just raising cutting height one notch. As a side note, I'm only 100 lbs and totally not in shape, with pretty weak wrists, but found this very comfortable to handle... much more so than our gas mowers were.

I was NOT impressed by the way the clippings catcher dumps much of the stuff out while walking because right out of the box it's netting sort of lifts up on the back end, tilting the bottom toward the opening which has no barrier to stop things sliding out. A rock or weight in the back end should fix this, or I may create a small barrier at front edge.

During the first run, I didn't make ANY effort to clean up the debris in the yard. For the most part, that turned out okay, BUT... I ran over a steel outlet cover that had fallen from the shed into the grass unseen, and made three large nicks in the blade and reel. With the loud clunk, the reel would not turn anymore. I would have dumbly adjusted the reel further from the blade, making matters worse... and probably giving up on the thing, pleasant as it was to use... but hubby knew better and handled it by smoothing the burrs created at the chinks which got the reel freely spinning again.

I have had this mower for about 8 months. It was easy to assemble and seemed to work well for a few months. Then, cutting became uneven so I had to mow twice to get a nice lawn. Then the gears seemed to be stripping--no torque or intermittent torque to the blades. Now, there is virtually nothing. It's junk.
I would never buy this mower if I had it to do over again. Never.

Test pushing this without cutting any grass looks promising. Pushing it on actual grass was a huge disappointment. The gears that they are putting in this thing has to be cheap because I didn't get that far with it and it gets stripped. Tried calling the manufacturer, leaving my name and phone, been a month and no return call. Don't bother with this brand.

I have a small enclosed patio / yard with approx 400 square feet of lawn. I used to cut it with a large gas mower I also use on the big lawns out back. I wanted a very fine lower cut then that machine would give me in this yard. This Ellison does the job. Very nice crisp cut.

I would advise anybody who wants to do what I did to start with high settings and take the grass down in height by maybe 1/2 inch a week. The machine can be balky if you try to feed it too thick a cut and if you have long grass now, your lawn may be too thick to cut well at the final height you are looking for. Over the course of 5 or 6 weeks you will get new more tender grass leaves and your lawn will start looking darn good provided that you do all the other things necessary. Thatching / feeding / proper watering etc.

This is a nice little mower and now that I have worked the grass down to the 1 inch setting its a 10 minute job to mow once a week.

This mower did not receive 5 stars because the grass catcher although acceptable, could use to hold a little more grass and do a better job of containing the clippings.
