Editorial Reviews

Review

"Elsewhere in the Land of Parrots is an engaging, witty, and surprisingly touching narrative, which lures us into dreaming the dreams - and perhaps sharing the fate - of a flock of parrots." -- Andrea Barrett, author of Ship Fever

"Jim Paul has filled the pages of his lucid novel with the brilliant colors and the bright sounds of exotic birds, with the loamy ripeness of Ecuatorian mangroves. This is an engrossing story of one man's quest to climb out of the cage he has made of his life, to gather the courage to fling himself from his own window, to fly unfettered into joy and freedom." --Sandra Benitez, author of A Place Where the Sea Remembers

"Great fun! The parrots are the heroes, while the humans are adrift. A gentle, luminous tale, beautifully told." -- Leslie Marmon Silko, author of ALMANAC OF THE DEAD

"ELSEWHERE IN THE LAND OF PARROTS is a quirky, unforgettable tale: lightly told yet
philosophically weighty, amusing yet unsettling, poetic yet down to earth--
in short, a delight." -- Mark Hertsgaard, author of EARTH ODYSSEY

"...an engaging, witty, and surprisingly touching narrative, which lures us into dreaming the dreams ... of a flock of parrots."
(Andrea Barrett author of Ship Fever)

"Endearingly hapless lovebirds. [T]heir foibles are as colorful as the plumage of the creatures that bring them together."
(Entertainment Weekly)

"A spritely romantic travelogue."
(Miami Herald)

"Parrots aren''t common in fiction, but Paul infuses them with symbolism and romance enough to make you wonder why not."
(Bookpage)

"Engaging, lyrical, and funny."
(Kirkus)

"Great fun! The parrots are the heroes, while the humans are adrift. A gentle, luminous tale, beautifully told."
(Leslie Marmon Silko author of ALMANAC OF THE DEAD)
