Product description

Power down your PC, insert the POST (Power On Self Test) code tester into an ISA or PCI slot, and then monitor the LED display as your computer boots up. That's all there is to it. LEDs will display if and how well your power supply is operating, then a series of codes will appear on the tester display as your computer's BIOS performs its self test. Includes tester, remote display with 24-inch cable and comprehensive POST code table with error descriptions.

Well enough made. Must Download Manual to use.

I work with a small computer shop and bought this for them to use to troubleshoot motherboard RAM and CPU issues. We played around with it on a few computers we suspected such issues with and the device did not make any impact on our ability to isolate the problem. The codes it provided did not identify the problem directly. They just reported the status of the motherboard's various low level actions. From this it may be possible to derive useful clues. But we did not find it practical.

It's well enough made and does what it's supposed to. But how useful that will be to the technician is going to be up to your specific needs. Despite it being useless in my work, I give it 4 stars because it works as described, but it was a bit frustrating to have to find the manual online and download it to be able to decipher the device codes. If the company doesn't want to ship a manual, they could at least include a link to where it can be found online.

I'm not going to rant and rave like other reviewers about how they can't read the included booklet, or the fact they cannot figure out what the codes mean or how to diagnose the problem from the clues in which is being provided to them from the card. Some people just need to stop crying and work with the information you have.. Nonetheless;

My complaint is with the fact that this does NOT INCLUDE the ribbon cable and external LCD screen as listed in the "Product Description" on the Amazon website!

-Buyers Beware- If you are wanting that 24inch ribbon cable and external LCD screen that displays the codes for you without having to look at the actual card itself, the listing is deceiving as it is NOT INCLUDED!!

I personally went through 2 of these with Amazon and a representative to the point where they actually issues me a partial refund for the missing parts promised in the description. Just an FYI.

Insufficient information on how to use

I have attempted to use this analysis on several computers with unsatisfactory results. The POST tester does not come with an operators manual or BIOS error post codes. You can download the PDF file from their website which contains most common BIOS codes. It is my opinion you need to have a pretty good working knowledge in order to use this tester. Even though I have had no success with this tester, I must be fair in saying I have not given it much of a chance. I only try to repair computers as a favor to my friends and I don't do that very frequently. To give this item a fair evaluation, I would have to use it more frequently.

Pro's: Cost

Con's: No operators manual or BIOS error codes come with the unit.

I would hesitate in recommending this item based on my lack of success using it.

So no beeps, but it still works. It has a cable and port for an external display, but oddly enough, does NOT come with another display! This would be really helpful, especially if the external display included the status LED's. The changing codes on the display are almost useless. I'v never had a situation where I needed to look up a code that the status LED's didn't already tell me what was going on. I own my own computer repair company, so I have had a few occasions to use this little guy. It's still not a frequently used tool, and not the most helpful tool in my bag, but it does come in handy if I suspect a bad motherboard. Usually the problem is the power supply, PCI card, memory, or a poor connection. The little status LED's do help reduce the diagnostic time... when you can see them!

I'm able to find the bad hardware much easier using this POST card and therefore reduced troubleshooting time.
This is very helpful when you don't have extra parts to swap around for testing.
The code it generates and its corresponding description doesn't tell you what part of your PC have the problem.
It just gives you a clue and its up to you to further interpret.
I just searched the description on the web and found what it means from other people with same problem.

Not the Elston Card...

The card I received was the cheaper card PC Analysis Card - Diagnostic Motherboard POST Testerthat retails for half the price.The only difference between the cheaper one and the one I received was the color of the LEDs and mine didn't come with the cable. Looking on the Elston site this is not the same board at all. Not sure why I'd pay premium price for an off brand product, but I'm returning this asap.

Holy cow I forgot I had bought this from Amazon oh so long ago. Worked well with what I used it on. Never used the other side cause I never had a PC that had those motherboard slots.

Only cons I can say was finding the list of codes and what they mean.

This Power On Self Test card worked great. It helped me troubleshoot the RAM that I had in my MOBO. It definitely lets you know what is wrong with your computer. If you can't find the code in the downloaded manual, support from the vendor is excellent, I emailed them and and they responded back quickly.
