Why this was released in Blu-Ray I will never know. It is outright deceptive as it is not in high definition worthy of Blu-Ray and the sound quality is sub-standard. I saw this concert in Las Vegas at the Caesar's Palace Colosseum stage. The live concert was brilliant, from the top notch performance by Elton John to the spectacular stage and video screen designed by Dave LaChappelle, to the crystal clear sound system. When I saw that the concert was on Blu-Ray I jumped at the chance to own it, thinking it would accurately depict the spectacular colors on the background screen and blow me away with high quality sound. I have never been more disappointed in a video I have purchased. The video poor, colors nothing like what was seen at the live show, and sound less than equal to what was available before 5.1. There is no reason to buy this on Blu-Ray as the quality is equal to a mediocre DVD. I want my money back!!!

Bought this to view on my big screen "home theater" set-up. Love it. Elton shows us why he's such an enduring star and entertainer. The piano is certainly "red" but the musical performance is outstanding, as is the surround sound. This and the "Dream Ticket" BluRay/DVD are the two I bought and I love them both. A very wide variety of performance styles ALL worth watching. Get them both.

If you were not able to see the show in Las Vegas, this blu-ray is the next best thing.
No video of a concert will ever be able to duplicate the experience of being there is person, but this production does give a good balance of Elton, the band and the amazing backdrop/film footage.
I don't have a surround sound system, but I was very happy with the stereo sound quality.
It looks like a number of other reviewers complained about the video quality, but I was very happy with it on my 1080p TV.

I must tell you, IMO this is one of Elton John's finest Concerts. I enjoyed from start to finish. Would recommend to any Elton John fan. Blu-ray is a must. Perfect picture and sound. Watching the Blu-ray disk is better than being at the concert! Elton John sound as good today as he did 20 years earlier. Can't say the same for some of the other singers.(The BEEGEES) So purchase this Blu-ray disk, sit back and enjoy!!

I saw this show live in Vegas several years ago and wanted to see it again it was that good, unfortunately I kept missing it. The release of this disc means I can relive the show whenever I want to. It does not contain all of his hits but the stage production and sound are stellar. Even if you are a casual fan of Elton John this is a must have, you feel like getting up and singing along with the songs and may regret not making it to Vegas to see this show live.

Blu-Ray ?? The Real Picture

Its a tough one when you buy something that on paper should be perfect , but the actual end result is somewhat lacking..
Disappointing is the only word I can find to review the brilliant show , I have compared the standard DVD to this Hi-def transfer a number of times and to be honest the picture quality hardly varies..
The use of "soft focus" and colour enhancement by the American network that filmed the event is painfully obvious through-out and its that picture "rendering" that when transferred into HD makes the picture look fuzzy or very grainy , and the colour look "over-coloured" ..
Its a great show though , and the production is second to none by Elton's standards. I saw the show in London back in 2008 and was hopeful this "upgrade" from the original DVD I have , would bring the show into my living room with detail and sharpness.
Sadly it only makes viewing irritating and makes you ask yourself .."is this really HD..?" when the white haze seems to be around the frame of most of the picture and the black areas of the screen pixelate like a nest of black ants dancing form a view above..
Its typical of its time when DVD was still King and you could do many things in photoshop with video recordings that when scanned into 1080 will only show clearly what alterations have been made and the "tweaking" is far more visible..

For the money it cost , I would advise to keep your DVD safe and enjoy this show the way the American audience wanted you to see it..

Nachdem ich "The Red Piano" nun auch auf Blu-ray gesehen habe stehen für mich zwei Dinge grundlegend fest: Show top - Bild ein Flop!

Zur Show:
Die "Red Piano Show" aus Las Vegas ist das beste Elton John Konzert das ich bisher gesehn habe. Nicht umsonst hat Elton John 243 Konzerte dieser Version im Ceasars Palace Colosseum (Las Vegas) von 2004 bis 2009 gespielt. Dazu kam die Europa-Tour 2009.

Dieses Konzert ist hundertprozentig Elton John. Natürlich alles ein bisschen auf Las Vegas abgestimmt, aber die Kulisse ist einfach traumhaft schön und die Screen-Videos von David Lachapell zeigen letztlich Elton John in seiner ganzen Größe und Einzigartigkeit.

Technische Umsetzung:
Im Vergleich zur DVD ist das Bild auf der Blu-ray deutlich schärfer und strahlender. Allerdings bin auch ich etwas enttäuscht über die gänzliche Bildqualität. Einige Kameraeinstellungen lassen ein HD-Feeling erzeugen, aber das wird dann doch durch ein durchgehendes "Bildrauschen" und einige unscharfe Kameraeinstellungen abgewertet.

Von Full HD kann eigentlich keine Rede sein. Durch intensivere Nachbearbeitung hätte man sicherlich das Produkt noch besser machen können.
Vielleicht gibt das orginal Videomaterial aber auch nicht mehr her, denn bei diese Show waren keine mobilen Kamera-Teams, sonder mehr fest installierte Kameras mit voreingestellten Winkeln,Filtern und Programmen im Einsatz. Achtet beim Konzert mal darauf! Das Publikum und Show sollte wohl so wenig wie möglich durch eine Aufzeichnung gestöhrt werden. Die Show wurde 2004 live aufgezeichnet. Je nach eingesetzter Kamera-Technik kann es da schon gravierende Unterschiede geben.

Eine Dokumentation mit Konzertausschnitten und kurzen Band-Interviews, sowie die David Lachapell Filme sind als Bonus enthalten. Das Bild bei den Konzertauschnitten der Dokumentation sieht hierbei teilweise deutlich schärfer und rauschdezimierter aus.
Wurde hier vielleicht eine neuere Aufführungen aufgezeichnet. Warum hat man dann nicht diese Aufzeichnugfür das vollständige Konzert genommen? Ganz erklären kann ich mir das mit der Bildqualität nicht.

Die Tonspuren sind gut, könnten aber insgesamt ein bisschen klarer und basslastiger sein. Besonders der Stereo-Kanal hat nicht viel Dynamik zu bieten. Der DTS Kanal ist besser, aber es gibt auch hier Blu-ray Veröffentlichungen mit besserem HD-Ton. Insgesamt aber akzeptabel.

Mein Fazit: Die Red Piano Show muss man gesehen haben. Es ist das beste, lustigste und spektakulärste Elton John Konzert, welches ich bisher gesehen habe. Die große Resonanz und Spieldauer dieser Show in den USA spricht für sich.

Die Blu-ray hat insgesamt eine doch merkbar besser Bildqualiät als die DVD, aber es ist definitiv kein brillantes HD-Material,wie man es eigentlich erwartet.

Dennoch vergebe ich 4 Sterne, weil letztendlich für mich persönlich die Red Piano Show einen mittelmäßigen HD-Transfer wieder ausgleicht.
